Continuing his trade war temper tantrum with Canada, Donald Trump signed an executive order today changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.
The lake has been called Lake Ontario since at least the 1600s. The name comes from an Iroquoian word, oniatarí:io, meaning “lake of shining waters.” It predates the founding of both countries. The Canadian province of Ontario was named after the lake, not the other way around.
