Joan Rivers removed from Costco after protesting

Comedian Joan Rivers has never had a problem expressing her opinions, however controversial they may be, and the TV personality made it known Tuesday that Costco was her latest target.

Police were called to a Costco store in a Los Angeles suburb after Joan Rivers handcuffed herself to a shopping cart to protest the store, which is not selling her latest book.

The 79-year-old “Fashion Police” host was being filmed by a camera crew Tuesday as she complained that the store in Burbank, Calif., had refused to carry her book, “I Hate Everything… Starting With Me.” No criminal action [was taken]. Sources say she had an entourage with her, including a camera crew and it appeared to be a staged event.

Rivers’ book “I Hate Everything … Starting With Me,” was released in June and contains expletives and racy language.

“My book has been banned from Costco,” Rivers told KABC Television, via phone. “On the back I have two [fake] quotes, one from Marie Antoinette, ‘Let her eat (expletive),’ and the other from Wilt Chamberlain, ‘Even If I were alive, I wouldn’t (expletive) her.’ Costco, who sells condoms by the pallet, Paula Deen books, not good for health … decided to ban my book.”

Joan Rivers on the Tracy Morgan anti-gay rant

Legendary comic Joan Rivers spoke to The Daily Beat regarding Tracy Morgan’s anti-gay rant earlier this week: “He’s not a Mensa comic. He’s not the voice of this generation.”

Rivers has been where Morgan is standing before, having famously made a career of being an equal opportunity offender.

“At the very start of my act, I say, ‘Calm down. We’re gonna get everybody.  My act, when you really listen to it out of context is so offensive, I would sue myself after every show,” she said.

“I’m shocked that we aren’t upset that he said ‘I’ll stab that little nigger,’ that to me is offensive,” she said.

It’s still not offensive enough to get him fired, thus far. NBC Entertainment’s new Chairman, Bob Greenblatt, issued a statement that said, in part, “we do not condone hate or violence of any kind and I am pleased to see Tracy Morgan apologizing for recent homophobic remarks in his standup appearance.” It also said: “…we have made it clear to him that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

No, Morgan is not out of work. But he is on an apology tour, working with GLAAD and plans on going back to the scene of the crime to make amends. All of which Rivers says is pure hooey.

“He shouldn’t apologize. Gay fans? What are they doing seeing him anyhow? Why aren’t they watching me and Kathy Griffin? What are they doing at this show?”

“I’ll tell you, the biggest crime of all,” said Rivers, “is that Tracy Morgan isn’t funny. You know what he should be apologizing for? For charging $86 to see him.”

Joan Rivers on her gay fans

The ever funny, ever relevant Joan Rivers recently spoke about her gay fans in an interview for Frontiers Magazine:

“I think gay men are brighter and smarter and more open, and they always—even in the beginning—got my comedy. I remember the first one to say, ‘she’s funny.’  The first ones in Greenwich Village to laugh at me were the gays.”

In addition to many, many other things, Joan has been a long-time supporter of God’s Love We Deliver, a leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. The organization began as a way to help those affected by HIV in the NYC area.

We love you too Joan. Thanks for all the laughs and support.
