The Czech-American helped build Trump’s real estate empire, and the two became known as a quintessential 1980s New York power couple. The marriage ended in a highly publicized divorce in 1992. Ivana Trump: “I’m Basically First Trump Wife. I’m First Lady, Ok?”

I’m sure this went over well in the White House.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Ivana Trump shared that she speaks with the president every couple of weeks but doesn’t use the “direct number” because she doesn’t want to upset First Lady Melania Trump.

“I have the direct number to White House but I don’t really want to call him there because Melania is there and I don’t really want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife, OK? I’m first lady, OK?” she laughingly told GMA.

She also made clear that she doesn’t harbor any envy about having to live in Washington, D.C.

“It’s better her than me. I would hate Washington,” said Ivana.

The First Lady responded to Ivana’s comments in a statement:

“Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and The President. She loves living in Washington, DC and is honored by her role as First Lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books. There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise.”

Ivana gave the interview today ahead of the release of her memoir, Raising Trump.
