UPDATE: Sanders Campaign Says Anti-Gay “Rap” Intro Video Is Faked

UPDATE: Looks like I, and many major LGBT bloggers got punked. And I have to say, my first instinct was to ignore the story. But major sources I trust posted it, so I jumped. My bad.

The Sanders campaign, speaking to Chris Johnson of the Washington Blade says the video is a fake.

Warren Gill, a Sanders spokesperson, said when asked by the Washington Blade to comment on whether the candidate would condemn the music the video “has been doctored.”

“Someone ripped the music from this video and placed it over Sanders’ entrance,” Gill said.

The campaign shared footage with the Blade of a video it says is from the same rally in which no homophobic music is played, but the same two individuals who introduce Sanders are dressed in the same clothes as they greet the candidate on the stage.

First, Sen. Bernie Sanders got in hot water with the LGBT community over misrepresenting his meeting with HIV/AIDS activists.

Now, he has further inflamed LGBT activists over video footage showing him entering a campaign rally this week to the strains of DMX’s “Where The Hood At?”

Why the fury? Isn’t rap cool?

Mmm, maybe not so much when it’s a homophobic/transphobic track that calls out “homo thugs” and more.

Check the lyrics to the song:

Man, cats don’t know what it’s gonna be
Fuckin with a nigga like me, D-to-the-M-to-the-X
Last I heard, y’all niggaz was havin sex, with the SAME sex
I show no love, to homo thugs
Empty out, reloaded and throw more slugs
How you gonna explain fuckin a man?
Even if we squashed the beef, I ain’t touchin ya hand
I don’t buck with chumps, for those to been to jail
That’s the cat with the Kool-Aid on his lips and pumps
I don’t fuck with niggaz that think they broads
Only know how to be ONE WAY, that’s the dog
I know how to get down, know how to BITE
Bark very little, but I know HOW TO FIGHT
I know how to chase a cat up in the tree
MAN, I GIVE Y’ALL NIGGAZ THE B’INESS FOR FUCKIN WIT ME, IS YOU CRAZY?!?

The clip below shows Sanders entering the rally accompanied by the song. The clip cuts out before the homophobic lyrics.

Donald Trump With “Gay” Voice

JoeMyGod points up this video of Donald Trump’s victory speech after the South Carolina primary.

Without changing any words, the voiceover has been changed to a stereotypical “gay” voice.

Does this constitute mocking Trump by “making him gay?” Or is it funny?

You’ll recall the 2015 documentary “Do I Sound Gay?” which addressed the idea of this dynamic.

Oregon: Homophobic Bakers Send Cakes And Anti-Gay Movie Packages To LGBT Groups

Melissa and Aaron Klein, the former owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, stepped back into the spotlight this week when they sent what appeared to be “apology” packages to 10 LGBT groups comprised of a cake with the message “We Really Do Love You!” and a copy of the anti-gay movie Audacity.

You’ll recall the Kleins refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding and ended up being fined $135K for violating Oregon’s public accommodation laws. They eventually closed their bakery when the story became public and sales dried up.

However, the incident became a windfall for the couple as anti-gay supporters raised over $350K in donations for the couple via crowd funding.

Melissa Klein gave this statement to the Oregonian about the “apology” packages:

“Our purpose is to express our love for them as a Christian.

“We don’t hate them. We also included in the package the movie Audacity. I feel it is a well done movie that shows what being a Christian is about. My hope is that they will watch it and maybe just understand our heart. We want to show them that it’s not about not serving them it’s about not being able to partake in an event.”

The idea for the “apology” packages apparently came from San Diego Gay and Lesbian News reports televangelist Ray Comfort, who produced Audacity.

According to Comfort, “We are like doctors with a cure for cancer.”

San Diego’s Canvass for a Cause was one of ten LGBT organizations to receive a cake, but the group decided to place the package on auction via eBay.

“This is not an ’I am sorry cake,’” says Cavass director Cathy Carmack. “There is no apology included with the cake because the Kleins are not sorry. ”

Kevin Hart & Will Ferrell On Homophobic GET HARD Scene: “Funny Is Funny”

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are catching a lot of grief for their new movie Get Hard, where a hedge fund manager is sentenced to prison.

Although a comedy, the film is being criticized for racist and homophobic stereotypes that Variety has labeled “some of the ugliest gay-panic humor to befoul a studio release in recent memory.”

But Hart and Ferrell don’t see it. According to Hart – “Funny is funny.”

Ferguson police officer who shoved CNN anchor takes early retirement

The police officer who pushed CNN anchor Don Lemon during a live newscast from Ferguson, Missouri, has taken early retirement (with full benefits!) after being racist, homophobic video rants came to light.

From the Advocate:

Dan Page, a St. Louis County police officer, had been suspended but opted to retire to avoid further investigation, reports MSNBC. His last day was Monday.

Page pushed Lemon and others during the out journalist’s coverage of protests in Ferguson over the fatal shooting of unarmed black man Michael Brown. Afterward, Lemon notified Page’s supervisors about a speech the officer gave in 2012 to an organization called Oath Keepers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

In video of the hour-long rant, Page calls gay people in the military “sickening” and “pitiful,” rails against hate-crimes laws, and says four of the U.S. Supreme Court’s justices are “homosexual sodomites.” He calls President Obama “that illegal alien who claims to be our president,” says Muslims “will kill you,” and advises women to relax about “domestic violence stuff,” as couples who don’t get along should “just shoot each other and get it over with.”

He also warns Missouri’s U.S. senators, Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt, that he is “real good with a rifle,” and says that while he is a Christian, he is nonetheless proud of being a killer. “I’ve killed a lot,” says Page, a former Green Beret and 35-year veteran of the police department. “And if I need to, I’ll kill a whole bunch more…. God did not raise me to be a coward.”

In related news, the Ferguson police have begun wearing body cameras to help capture an accurate record of police-involved incidents.

Opera Australia fires singer Tamar Iveri over comments calling gays “sewage”

Opera singer Tamar Iveri has come under fire for comments posted to her Facebook which refer to homosexuals as “sewage.”

From the Advocate:

According to Adam Withnall of The Independent, Iveri’s Facebook status, framed as a letter to the Georgian president, was posted to the site after Orthodox Christian groups violently assaulted LGBT people holding a Pride parade in Tbilisi, Georgia. Here’s the text, as reported by Withnall.

“I was quite proud of the fact how Georgian society spat at the parade… Often, in certain cases, it is necessary to break jaws in order to be appreciated as a nation in the future, and to be taken into account seriously. Please, stop vigorous attempts to bring West’s ‘faecal masses’ [or sewage] in the mentality of the people by means of propaganda.”

Iveri was apparently shocked that she was called homophobic for the statement. Later, after the post was deleted, she told reporters she had been planning to write about the protests, but her husband – whom she says has “a tough attitude towards gay people” – found her draft, altered it and posted it on her Facebook page.

However, when the comments were first found, Iveri apologized to a local LGBT organization without any mention of her husband. Only when the comments became more widely known did the “husband” angle come up.

A petition was begun to ask Opera Australia to fire her. But the organization is standing by the singer.

However, there are reports that an opera company in Brussels has cancelled a date with Iveri.

UPDATE: Opera Australia has announced that the company has released Iveri from her contract and will NOT be performing “Otello”in July and August.  Before the announcement, Quantas, a major sponsor of Opera Australia, had released a statement saying Iveri’s comments  caused “deep concern” and was discussing possible steps forward with Opera Australia.

American Decency Association versus Honey Maid

American Decency Association board member Steve Huston is mad about rainbows and Honey Maid’s inclusive gay family ad campaign:

“Nabisco wants to change definitions like family and wholesome.

“Now that I am older and more interested in protecting definitions like family and wholesome, I’m interested in being a conscientious consumer, watching where I spend my dollar. It’s not a matter of acceptance; it’s a matter of an evil agenda which is being pushed upon America and around the world.

“Satan continues to attack God’s design and skew it to his own workings. He continues to take words like ‘wholesome’ and ‘family’ and twist them for his own purposes. He takes a symbol of God’s promise (the rainbow) and hijacks it, twisting it to his own design.

“Satan calls it normal; God calls it sin.”

I reported on the Honey Maid campaign last month, but why not take another look? I think it’s great 🙂

New York: Homophobic mother says “no” to children’s birthday party due to gay dads

Radio station K-98.3 hosts Steve and Leeana have shared what they say is a response from a Long Island mother to a seven-year old girl’s birthday party invitation sent by her two gay dads as a opportunity to showcase her homophobia.

“You’re invited to Sophia’s 7th Birthday Party,” the invitation reads.

And the response:

“Tommy will NOT attend,” the mother wrote on the invitation. “I do not believe in what you do and will not subject my innocent son to your ‘lifestyle.’”

“I’m sorry Sophia has to grow up this way. If you have an issue or need to speak to me call *** ****,” Tommy’s mother, Beth, wrote.

K-83 writes on Facebook the gay dads passed the invitation on to the station, and that Beth “gave us permission to post her phone number and said anyone who has a problem with what she wrote can call her, too!”

UPDATE: The radio hosts have now copped to making the story up.  Details here.

Website: “Texts from my Homophobic Mom”

According to Buzzfeed, the images below are from a Tumblr account called “Texts from my Homophobic Mom.”

Buzzfeed says the author has confirmed that the text messages, which chronicle his three year journey dealing with coming out to his mother, are real.

Here’s just a sample.  Not sure of the dates so may not be chronological.

As mentioned, these text messages are supposedly real between a mother and son.
