Arizona Rep. Chad Campbell on CNN: “License to discriminate” bill is bad for Arizona

Arizona state Rep. Chad Campbell speaks during debate on legalizing LGBT discrimination

LGBT ally Arizona Rep. Chad Campbell appeared on CNN today to talk about HB-2153 which passed last night in the Arizona state House.

The legislation, if signed into law, would legalize the ability to discriminate against any LGBT person based on someone’s religious beliefs.

Rep. Campbell is currently Democratic Minority Leader in the Arizona House and was a strong voice against the bill yesterday.

Arizona Gov. Brewer – Please veto LGBT discrimination

Jan Brewer, the governor of Arizona, had five days to either sign SB1062 into law (making LGBT discrimination legal), veto the bill or ignore it which would allow the legislation to become law.

The bill represents what is basically a “license to discriminate” against gays and lesbians in Arizona.

This is bad for the LGBT community. It is bad for Arizona. It’s bad for humanity.

Giving citizens the ability to hide behind “sincerely held beliefs” will affect more than the LGBT community.

Should an unwed mother-to-be see a doctor whose religion that preaches abstinence until marriage, that woman could be refused medical treatment legally.  Many other scenarios come into play in this ill-conceived piece of legislation.

You can call the governor’s office and let her know what you think.

After yesterday’s vote in the Arizona state House that approved legalized discrimination against the LGBT community, Rocco’s Little Chicago Pizzeria in Tuscon decided they could choose who THEY want to serve.

Democratic House Minority Leader Chad Campbell was one of the LGBT community’s strongest and most impassioned voices yesterday in the Arizona House’s debate on legalizing anti-gay discrimination.

Today, he shared on Twitter that he’s now received death threats for speaking out against hate.

For the record, Campbell is heterosexual and married.

Unfortunately for Arizona he is term limited out of office this year. Here’s hoping he moves on to even bigger and better in public office.
