George Zimmerman’s Gun Sells For $250,000
Reuters is reporting that George Zimmerman, who shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012, has successfully auctioned off the gun used in the killing for $250,000.
His offer to sell the Kel-Tec PF9 9mm handgun on UnitedGunGroup.com drew praise from gun rights supporters and scorn from critics who accused him of seeking to profit from the 17-year-old’s death.
In a statement on Twitter after the bidding closed on Wednesday, United Gun Group defended its decision to host the auction and said it would have no further comments.
On his own website that day, Zimmerman said the auction had “raised funds for several worthy causes.” He has said he would use proceeds to counter violence against law enforcement officers by the group Black Lives Matter and to fight Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton’s “anti-firearm rhetoric.”
I highly doubt Zimmerman will donate all of the proceeds to charity. I’m sure he counts himself as a “worthy cause.”

An Ohio grand jury has decided not to return an indictment in the 2014 police shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, prosecutor Tim McGinty said Monday.
Rice was holding a pellet gun when he was shot. It was “reasonable” to believe that the officer who killed the boy was facing a threat, McGinty said.
The officer was in training outside a Cleveland recreation center in November 2014. The shooting sparked controversy given Tamir’s age and the fact that he had a gun that resembled a handgun.
McGinty called Rice’s killing an “absolute tragedy.”
“But it was not, by the law that binds us, a crime,” he said. He said he has “heard the chants” that cry for justice for the boy.
“We too want justice for Tamir,” he said. But it would not be justice to bring charges against the officers involved in the shooting if those charges “could not be sustained.”That, however, “doesn’t mean the legal system is done,” he said. The civil courts may provide some accountability to the boy’s family “that they deserve,” McGinty said.
The shooting of a child should “never happen again,” he said, and he urged that toy gun manufacturers stop making their products look so much like real guns.
Tamir had been playing near the swings of a recreation center near his home when he was shot on November 22. He died a day later.
President Obama: We Will Not Be Terrorized
In this week’s address, the President offered his condolences to the families and community of the victims of the San Bernardino shooting.
Obama correctly notes that this latest mass shooting was “another tragic reminder that here in America it’s way too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on a gun.”
“Right now, people on the No-Fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun. That is insane. If you’re too dangerous to board a plane, you’re too dangerous, by definition, to buy a gun.”

NRA & Republicans Block Law To Prevent Terrorists From Buying Guns In US
According to the New York Daily News, suspected terrorists are able to legally buy guns in the US due to the lobbying efforts of the NRA.
A legal loophole allows suspected terrorists on the government’s no-fly list to legally buy guns, but a bill to fix that will likely wither on the vine. The federal Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act, even in the wake of last week’s terrorist killing of 129 people in Paris, remains a long shot due to its rabid pro-gun opponents.
“Anything which they feel restricts the use or the ability to retain a gun they’re opposed to,” bill co-sponsor Rep. Pete King (R-L.I.) told the Daily News.
“It’s sort of a knee-jerk reaction,” he said Tuesday. “The National Rifle Association is strongly opposed to it and the fact is we have only a handful of Republican co-sponsors.”
The legislation was initially proposed in 2007 by the Bush administration, with King formally introducing the bill in Congress two years later.
Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the NRA, has prevented tougher gun laws from being approved.
Currently, some known or suspected terrorists are prohibited from boarding airplanes by the government’s no-fly list — but all are allowed to buy assault rifles and other weapons.
While the bill remained a nonstarter, more than 2,000 suspects on the FBI’s Terrorist Watchlist bought weapons in the U.S. over the last 11 years, according to the federal Government Accountability Office.
The GAO reported that 91% of all suspected terrorists who tried to buy guns in America walked away with the weapon they wanted over the time period, with just 190 rejected despite their ominous histories.
The NRA did not respond to a Tuesday request for comment, but opposed the 2009 version of the proposed law on grounds that law-abiding Americans wrongly placed on the list would lose their Second Amendment rights.
Alabama: Walmart Sells Gun Oil Personal Lube In Gun Section
A shopper in the gun section of an Alabama Walmart, Jamie Lee Bracey, came across a product he hadn’t heard of before named “Gun Oil H2O.” Thinking the bottle was actually gun oil, he turned the bottle over and read the label.
Bracey soon realized what the popular product was really all about 🙂

President Obama’s Frustration With Congress Over Yet Another Mass Shooting: ‘Somehow This Has Become Routine’
At a press conference Thursday, President Barack Obama’s frustration with a lack of action from Congress to prevent mass shootings – like the one that happened today at Umpqua Community College in Oregon – was on clear display.
“It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun,” Obama said.

He recalled an interview in which he said that America is the only country on Earth that sees these kinds of mass shootings regularly. Hours later, there were reports of a shooting at a Lafayette, Louisiana, movie theater.
He continued: “We spend over $1 trillion on preventing terrorism…yet we have a Congress that prevents us from even collecting data on how to reduce gun deaths.”
The president also made note that “our thoughts and prayers are not enough. They are not enough.”
“Somehow this has become routine.”
I agree. Over 80% of Americans support universal background checks when purchasing a gun. Can we not do even just that?
One guy fails to ignite a shoe bomb on an airplane, and now we all take our shoes and belts off to go through airport security. We can’t take a few minutes to do a background check on a felon or mentally ill person?
