Musical Theatre: Grindr The Musical

Winner of 6 Awards at the West Village Musical Theater Festival!

From the official website for the show:

When Jesse decides to find his true self, he logs onto Grindr – the gay geosocial networking, and notoriously known, hook-up app. Delving into an underworld he never knew existed, he finds himself transported to the ‘scene’ with new-found freedoms of anonymous sex, promiscuity, and general male horniness. Jesse discovers fresh feelings deep inside himself with the help of his heavenly chorus of Grindr boys, as well as realizing the dangers of an unending dispensary of men.

Will Jesse find what he’s looking for or become dependent on the app that uncovered his new self?

With music and lyrics by JACOB TISCHLER (Inexperienced Love @ Fringe NYC 2012, Secondhand Shakespeare Best Book & Lyrics @ WVMTF 2012) and a book by JACOB TISCHLER & BRYCE CUTLER (The Physical Impossibility) with direction by BENJAMIN VIERTEL (Best Director @ WVMTF 2012).

Patti LuPone Welcomes Audience To The Theatre

Patti LuPone and Michael Urie in SHOWS FOR DAYS

Earlier this week, Broadway icon Patti LuPone made headlines when she snatched a cell phone out of the hands of an audience member who was texting during the performance of her current show Shows For Days at Lincoln Center.

LuPone describe the incident to the New York Times:

“This woman — a very pretty young woman — was sitting with her boyfriend or husband. We could see her text. She was so uninterested. She showed her husband what she was texting. We talked about it at intermission. When we went out for the second act I was very close to her, and she was still texting. I watched her and thought, “What am I going to do?” At the very end of that scene, we all exit. What I normally do is shake the hand of the people in the front row. I just walked over to her, shook her hand and took her phone. I walked offstage and handed it to the stage manager, who gave it to the house manager.

“I don’t know why they buy the ticket or come to the theater if they can’t let go of the phone. It’s controlling them. They can’t turn it off and can’t stop looking at it. They are truly inconsiderate, self-absorbed people who have no public manners whatsoever. I don’t know what to do anymore. I was hired as an actor, not a policeman of the audience.

It’s getting worse. I’m hired to tell a story, and it takes a lot of effort and work to do that convincingly. It’s a handful of people who destroy that experience for everyone. It’s heartbreaking. Theater is not a social event.”

She issued this public statement about her actions and why she feels so strongly about the issue:

“We work hard on stage to create a world that is being totally destroyed by a few, rude, self-absorbed and inconsiderate audience members who are controlled by their phones. They cannot put them down. When a phone goes off or when a LED screen can be seen in the dark it ruins the experience for everyone else – the majority of the audience at that performance and the actors on stage. I am so defeated by this issue that I seriously question whether I want to work on stage anymore. Now I’m putting battle gear on over my costume to marshall the audience as well as perform.”

Last night, the show began like this:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Funny: Gay Couple Rejects “Gay Wedding” Request

Funny, parody video where a gay son’s parents are actually upset he doesn’t WANT a big gay wedding.

Clip description: A family threatens to disown their gay son after he reveals he and his fiance won’t have a “gay wedding”.

True story – I got married twice (to the same hot hubby Michael). We got married first in Toronto in October 2003 and then again in California in October 2008. We only did the second one because we wanted an American marriage license.

BOTH were City Hall weddings 🙂

Satire: “Not Alone”

Spot on satire video on the current crop of folks whining and wailing about their “religious freedoms” being offended by the passage of marriage equality.

“You cannot have a society of hatred, or a society of bigotry, unless, I mean, you know, you’re me and my friends”

Here’s the original video (from Catholic Vote) as described by AdWeek:

The ad, with a straight face, position Catholics as a persecuted group for not having their message of intolerance (here blatantly recast as its opposite) widely accepted these days.

It even plays like a coming-out video for Catholics who are afraid to take the “brave” step of voicing their objection to equality.

That’s a pretty audacious tactic—disingenuous and disrespectful, to say the least.

Add “Remove Cat” To Pre-Flight Checklist

Over 7 million views in two days. The pilot’s double-take at the one minute mark is perfection.

Via the Guardian:

A cat has escaped with at least one of its nine lives after stowing away on an ultra-light aircraft flight.

A video has been posted on YouTube of the cat digging its claws into the aircraft’s wing as its pilot and passenger fly hundreds of feet above the ground at first apparently unaware of its presence.

Romain Jantot, understood to be the pilot in the clip, cites a flying club in Kourou, French Guiana, in the film’s description.

“A standard flight until … I still don’t know if it got in after the pre-flight check or if I missed it,” he says. “The cat is doing well, she is still our mascot.”

All appears well and cat-free as the aircraft accelerates on the runway and begins its takeoff. But about 38 seconds into the clip, the cat slowly creeps into view under the plane’s left wing, making its way towards the pilot and passenger with a sinister slow crawl.

Just after a minute has passed, the pilot’s shock is clear as he notices the windswept stowaway. Never before has a man’s face said “there’s a cat on the wing of my plane” with such unequivocal clarity.
