Florida Passes Bill Allowing Governor To Remove Elected Officials For ‘Promoting’ Pride
On Tuesday, the Florida state legislature approved SB 1134, which will prohibit all local authorities from “promoting” or “adopting” initiatives concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion like Pride events—and prevents any recipients of municipal contracts or grants from doing likewise.
Because the language of the bill is “vague by design,” it creates a chilling effect where local leaders may preemptively cut all ties to the LGBTQ community to avoid the risk of executive suspension. • The Florida Phoenix: The Human Rights Campaign’s annual report evaluating LGBTQ inclusivity found 7 cities in Florida — Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami, Orlando, St Petersburg, Tampa, and Wilton Manors — received 100% scores. That’s surprising in light of the ongoing attacks on queer rights in the Sunshine State by Gov. DeSantis and his crew.

• Wired: Apple has removed two of the most popular gay dating apps in China – Finka and Blued – from the App Store after receiving an order from China’s main internet regulator and censorship authority.
• Broadway World: Tony/Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth has returned to Broadway in The Queen of Versailles, now at the St. James Theatre. The new musical also stars Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham and is directed by Tony winner Michael Arden with music and lyrics by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz. BW has a round-up of the reviews which were very mixed.
