Mitt Romney: Vote For Ted Cruz To Screw With Donald Trump

2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took to his Facebook today to encourage folks to vote for Sen. Ted Cruz in the upcoming Utah GOP primary.

Not necessarily because he’s a Cruz guy, but just to screw with Donald Trump’s delegate count.

This week, in the Utah nominating caucus, I will vote for Senator Ted Cruz.

Today, there is a contest between Trumpism and Republicanism. Through the calculated statements of its leader, Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.

The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.

I like Governor John Kasich. I have campaigned with him. He has a solid record as governor. I would have voted for him in Ohio. But a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.

I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican.

The Donald noticed the post. His Twitter response?

Donald Trump Senior Adviser: Riots Aren’t Violence

Team Trump is now writing the definitions of words in the English language.

On Friday morning’s New Day, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Trump senior campaign adviser SamClovis to respond to Speaker Paul Ryan‘s scolding of Trump for the riots remark, and Clovis decided up was down, and down was up.

Camerota: “What do you think about the idea that he was suggesting that there would be violence? Threatening that there would be violence?”

Clovis: “I don’t think he said violence, he said riots.”

Camerota:”Riots are violence, by definition.”

Clovis: “I don’t accept that.”

Clovis went on to say if Donald Trump isn’t named the Republican nominee at the party convention in July, he will leave the GOP forever.

Wall Street Journal Slaps Back At Donald Trump: “The Truth Hurts”

Donald Trump’s war against the conservative Wall Street Journal continues as the Trumpster demanded an apology over the paper’s editorial which declared he would be “a sure loser in November.”

In a new editorial, the WSJ noted that Democrat Hillary Clinton has received more votes during the primary season than Trump has.

Trump took to Twitter (for a change) and said having 16 opponents made a difference.

Via Talking Points Memo:

“Of the 20.35 million GOP primary votes cast so far, he has received 7.54 million, or a mere 37%. Despite the media desire to call him unstoppable, Mr. Trump is the weakest Republican front-runner since Gerald Ford in 1976.”

The editorial board pointed out that though Trump may have diehard followers, his unfavorables are also remarkably high: “The Real Clear Politics polling average shows twice as many adults have negative views (61%) than positive views (32.5%) of Mr. Trump.”

As for Trump’s remark that the newspaper’s editorials don’t matter because “nobody cares” what the Wall Street Journal writes anymore, the board thanked him for being “such a loyal reader.”

I, personally, disagree with the Trumpmeister. Whether 16 or 60 opponents, your supporters can vote for you in the primary. If you really are all that and a bag of chips, you’d have the votes.

Donald Trump: “I Think You’d Have Riots” If I’m Not The Nominee

Republican front-runner Donald Trump, speaking to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, threatened the possibility of “riots” at the GOP convention this summer should he be denied his party’s nomination:

“I think we’ll win before getting to the convention, but I can tell you, if we didn’t and if we’re 20 votes short or if we’re 100 short and we’re at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400, because we’re way ahead of everybody, I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically.

“I think it would be — I think you’d have riots. I think you’d have riots. I’m representing a tremendous, many, many millions of people.”

The Economist Ranks A Trump Presidency As A Top Risk To Global Stability

For all those folks who think the United States would be better off economically with Donald Trump in the White House, think again.

The Economist’s Intelligence Unit ranks the idea of a Trump presidency as one of the ten worst risks to financial stability in the world.

From the BBC:

Donald Trump winning the US presidency is considered one of the top 10 risks facing the world, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit. The research firm warns he could disrupt the global economy and heighten political and security risks in the US.

However, it does not expect Mr Trump to defeat Hillary Clinton who it sees as “his most likely Democratic contender”. He is rated as riskier than Britain leaving the European Union or an armed clash in the South China Sea.

China encountering a “hard landing” or sharp economic slowdown and Russia’s interventions in Ukraine and Syria preceding a new “cold war” are among the events seen as more dangerous.

Donald Trump Goes Instagram Attack Ad On Hillary Clinton

A video posted by Donald J. Trump (@realdonaldtrump) on Mar 16, 2016 at 9:15am PDT

Juxtaposing images of Russian President Putin body slamming an opponent, an ISIS terrorist pointing a gun and Hillary Clinton jokingly barking at a campaign stop, Donald Trump put all those ingredients together to try and say “Is this what we want for a President?”

Fortune Magazine calls the spot “insane.”

The short video is a mash-up of clips featuring a laughing Russian President Vladimir Putin, ISIS pointing a gun, and a Hillary Clinton barking like a dog—a moment taken out of context from a February stump speech. It’s overlaid with text that starts out “When it comes to facing our toughest opponents…” and goes into snapshots of Putin body slamming an opponent in a white karate uniform and an image of an Arabic-speaking terrorist pointing a gun at the screen.

That all leads into the implication that Clinton is a “punchline” to the U.S.’ most dangerous opponents as it cuts to a multi-second clip of her barking like a dog, a move that was initially meant to shame Republicans in one of her campaign speeches.

I’m guessing Trump is already aware he’s given mucho ammunition for attack ads from his own campaign stops?

“Humans of New York” photographer Brandon Stanton has penned an open letter to Republican front-runner Donald Trump, calling him out for his divisive and hateful rhetoric.

He sat down with Yahoo News’ Katie Couric yesterday after the open letter went viral.

Here is Brandon’s open letter to Donald Trump in it’s entirety:

An Open Letter to Donald Trump:

Mr. Trump,

I try my hardest not to be political. I’ve refused to interview several of your fellow candidates. I didn’t want to risk any personal goodwill by appearing to take sides in a contentious election. I thought: ‘Maybe the timing is not right.’ But I realize now that there is no correct time to oppose violence and prejudice. The time is always now. Because along with millions of Americans, I’ve come to realize that opposing you is no longer a political decision. It is a moral one.

I’ve watched you retweet racist images. I’ve watched you retweet racist lies. I’ve watched you take 48 hours to disavow white supremacy. I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence, and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your behalf. I’ve watched you advocate the use of torture and the murder of terrorists’ families. I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood. I’ve watched you compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.’

I am a journalist, Mr. Trump. And over the last two years I have conducted extensive interviews with hundreds of Muslims, chosen at random, on the streets of Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan. I’ve also interviewed hundreds of Syrian and Iraqi refugees across seven different countries. And I can confirm— the hateful one is you.

Those of us who have been paying attention will not allow you to rebrand yourself. You are not a ‘unifier.’ You are not ‘presidential.’ You are not a ‘victim’ of the very anger that you’ve joyfully enflamed for months. You are a man who has encouraged prejudice and violence in the pursuit of personal power. And though your words will no doubt change over the next few months, you will always remain who you are.

Sincerely,
Brandon Stanton

Donald Trump Will Not Attend Fox News Republican Debate

GOP front-runner Donald Trump surprised the folks over at Fox News this morning during a call-in interview where he informed the Fox & Friends hosts he will not be attending the upcoming Fox News Republican debate.

From Mediaite:

“Nobody told me about the debate,” said Trump during his phone interview, revealing that a longstanding commitment — a speech to what he estimates is “eight or nine thousand people” on the night of March 21 — is preventing him from attending.

The trio of Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, and Brian Kilmeade tried to negotiate with the master negotiator a bit, with Earhardt offering, “The voters love them though!”

“No, you know who loves them? The networks,” clarified Trump. “Haven’t we had enough?” he asked at one point.

The debate, announced this past Monday, is set to take place in Salt Lake City on March 21st.
