Lessons For Trump: School House Rock “I’m Just A Bill”

This past Thursday was quite the day for President Trump and House Republicans as Trumpcare finally came up for a vote on the Floor of the House and the bill passed (by a slim margin of 217-213).

Team Trumpcare then headed up to the White House Rose Garden where it was all smiles in front of the news cameras for the jubilant crowd.

You’d have thought they’d won the Super Bowl.

In fact, the American Health Care Act is only one third of the way through the process of becoming law, so this was kind of like spiking the football on the 35 yard line.

As everyone knows, a bill goes from the House to the Senate, where changes are made, then sent back to the House for approval of those changes.

And if they make more changes, the legislation continues back and forth between chambers until there’s majority agreement.

Then, the bill heads to the President, who signs it into law.

I’d guess that Donald Trump didn’t have the luxury of watching School House Rock back in the 1970s like all of us.

Since we’re discussing it, why don’t we take a trip in the “way back machine” and revisit that oh-so-learned ditty, “I’m Just A Bill.”

Someone might want to send a link of this post to the prez just so he can bone up on how this all works 🙂

Ellen DeGeneres On Trump: “He’s Against Everything That I Stand For”

Matt Lauer, of The Today Show, interviewed Ellen DeGeneres about the 20th anniversary of her coming out, her new dating show and Donald Trump.

When asked about the possibility of a Donald Trump appearance on ELLEN, she didn’t seem too open to the idea.

LAUER: Would you like Trump to come on the show?

DEGENERES: No. I’m not going to change his mind. He’s against everything that I stand for.

Trump Slaps Back At Hillary Clinton For Asserting She’d Have Won If Not For Comey Letter and Russia

You knew Hillary Clinton would be on Donald Trump’s Twitter menu last night after she candidly pointed out that she would have won the presidential election had it not been for interference by FBI Director James Comey and Russian/Wikileaks.

I’m surprised it took him to 7PM to comment.

Trump To Legalize LGBT Discrimination In Executive Order Signing On Thursday

Well, we all saw this coming.

Politico is reporting that President Trump has invited conservative leaders to a signing at the White House Thursday. Most observers expect this will be the long-awaited executive order on promoting religious liberty over LGBT rights.

Two senior administration officials confirmed the plan, though one cautioned that it hasn’t yet been finalized, and noted that lawyers are currently reviewing and fine-tuning the draft language. Thursday is the National Day of Prayer, and the White House was already planning to celebrate the occasion with faith leaders.

The signing would represent a major triumph for Vice President Mike Pence—whose push for religious-freedom legislation backfired mightily when he served as governor of Indiana—and his allies in the conservative movement.

According to the above-linked report, the order is only slightly revised from the sweeping anti-LGBT order that was leaked to the press in February.

In February, The Nation obtained a draft of the executive order. “The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions [from antidiscrimination laws] for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail women’s access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act,” the progressive magazine reported at the time.

The ACLU has already weighed in:

“The ACLU fights every day to defend religious freedom, but religious freedom does not mean the right to discriminate against or harm others. If President Trump signs an executive order that attempts to provide a license to discriminate against women or LGBT people, we will see him in court.”

Trump Gets Defensive Dodging Questions Regarding Calling Obama A “Sick Man”

President Trump gets very defensive when asked if he stands by his allegation that President Obama “wiretapped” his phones.

Watch below as CBS’ John Dickerson asks Trump if he stands by his statement that Obama is a “sick” and “bad” man, which he tweeted in early March.

Answer – “I don’t stand by anything.”

Trump kept telling Dickerson to “figure it out yourself.”  And when Dickerson says, “I want to hear it from you – you don’t want it to be ‘fake news.'”

Trump replied, “You don’t have to ask me because I have my own opinion; you have your own opinion.”

Frustrated with actual questions, Trump finally dismisses Dickerson with a wave of his hand.

Trump Ponders Andrew Jackson: “He Was Really Angry That He Saw What Was Happening With Regard To The Civil War”

During an interview on SiriusXM’s “Main Street Meets the Beltway,” President Trump gave the impression that he believed Andrew Jackson was alive during the U.S. Civil War.

In the segment set to air today, Trump hypothesizes that Jackson could have ended the Civil War.

If, you know, he hadn’t been dead already. Jackson died in 1845, and the Civil War began in 1861.

Jackson came up in the interview as Trumps says “they” (whoever these “they” people are) compare Trump’s campaign to Jackson’s. He then went on to ponder the Civil War.

“I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later you wouldn’t have had the Civil War. He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. He was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War, he said, “There’s no reason for this.”People don’t realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why? People don’t ask that question, but why was there a Civil War? Why could that one not been worked out?”

Trump Asks Reporters To Print 2016 Electoral Map

Still trying to frame his election as more than it was, President Trump pulled out an electoral map during an interview with the Washington Post and asked them to print the map on the paper’s front page in honor of his 100th day in office.

Via The Hill:

The Post’s White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker on Friday said that Trump pulled out a copy of the map during an interview this week and asked for it to be included on the front page alongside the interview story.

“He brought out the map, he said, ‘Aren’t you impressed by this map?’ ” Rucker told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.

“He encouraged me to take it home to my colleagues at the Washington Post and try to run it on the front page of our newspaper. I think he was sort of playing there, but it speaks to the pride that he has in that map.”
Trump has done a series interviews this week to mark his 100th day as president, which is Saturday.

On Friday, a Reuters reporter said Trump similarly interrupted an interview to show a map with the latest figures from the 2016 election.

It’s notable that even with Republican control of the House, Senate and White House, the Trump administration has no sizable legislative achievement. The best that can be said is that the Republicans have “kept the lights on.”

David Frum Trolls Trump “Nobody Could Have Known…”

The Atlantic‘s senior editor, David Frum, trolled President Trump on his lack of insight on the difficulties of being president.

Trump told Reuters reporters this week that he thought being president would be “easier.”
