Police dog pays tribute to fallen partner at funeral

A heartbreaking photo from the funeral of Kentucky K9 officer Jason Ellis is proof of the incredible bond between police dogs and their partners.

The 33-year-old officer was killed in a suspected ambush on Saturday and laid to rest soon after, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Ellis’ canine partner, Figo, who worked with him to find drugs and illegal substances, kept a vigil beside his casket.

Police Chief Rick McCubbin told the Associated Press that Figo and Ellis were “true partners.” Figo has been retired and will live with Ellis’ family.

My prettiest girl, Tyler, isn’t feeling well…

Ugh.

My prettiest little girl – my only girl – hasn’t eaten in a few days, and is lethargic, so Michael took her to the vet. She has to stay over night for observation and fluids as she’s dehydrated from some reason.

Tyler is wonderful and light and happy all the time. She’s a bit ‘challenged’ but we’ve never cared about that – she’s our “prettiest” and we love her completely. My concern is she’s never been away from the family over night and she won’t understand all this.

I’m probably being overly nervous. But I’m not good with one of our kids away from home.

And uncomfortable.

And maybe scared.

I’ll be happier when she’s home tomorrow.

Please think some good thoughts. I love her very much.

Dogs rule: Emerson’s journey to home

In 2011, 75% of all households that acquired a dog chose not to adopt.  The #1 reason stems from the negative perceptions they have of shelter pets.

Emerson’s history is a sad one.

He was neglected and emotionally abused for years. Time and time again he would run away ending up at the shelter. And time and time again, his owners would pick him up and bring him home. The last time he ran away and ended up at the shelter, his owners thought better and left him there.

Thanks to Annie Hart and Bill Foundation, Emerson found his second lease on life. He had his wounds tended do but more than that he found a happy home in Michaela.
