Dan Savage is an American columnist, author, media pundit and theater director. His syndicated sex-advice column, Savage Love (bit.ly/DSsavlove), appears in several dozen newspapers.
Dan and his husband Terry started the It Gets Better Project (bit.ly/IGBproj) in 2010 in an effort to prevent suicide among LGBT youth by having gay adults convey the message that these teens’ lives will improve.

In this clip for Andrew Sullivan’s site, The Dish, Dan Savage addresses his thoughts on bisexuality and biphobia.
Dan Savage answers the question “What can we do to help kids forced into gay-to-straight conversion camps?”
“How do you go about asking somebody you’ve just started dating to get tested without sounding rude?”
Dan Savage’s new book, “American Savage,” is released today in bookstores and online.
From Amazon: “Dan Savage has never been shy about expressing his opinions on controversial topics—political or otherwise.
“He launched the global phenomenon of “It Gets Better,” an inspirational anti-bullying campaign to help LGBT youth, he’s the author of America’s leading sex advice column, “Savage Love;” and he is also infamous for creating one of the world’s first “Google bombs.”
“His writing has been praised as “startlingly frank, howlingly funny” (Library Journal); full of “steel-trap logic and scornful humor” (Publishers Weekly); and “deeply political, sensitive and wise” (PEN America Literary Award).
“In his new book, AMERICAN SAVAGE: Insights, Slights, and Fights on Faith, Sex, Love, and Politics, Dan Savage turns his sharp wit and keen perspective to some of the most salient issues facing the country today, including marriage equality, sex education, healthcare, gun control, and more.”

Dan Savage explains the origins of Peter LaBarbera’s nickname, Porno Pete.
LaBarbera is the head of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, which has often targeted pro-LGBT policies and advocated against LGBT people.
LaBarbera’s organization has been designated as an antigay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Dan Savage addresses Tony Perkins of the anti-gay Family Research Council and dares him to take Dan to court.
“Tony Perkins sits on a pile of dead gay kids every day when he goes to work. [snip] I welcome a lawsuit. A witness stand is a lonely place to lie. And that’s what you do for a living… I look forward to that day in court. I look forward to seeing you on a witness stand, something you have dodged and ducked for decades.”
