The Public Theater Pays Tribute to A CHORUS LINE on 40th Anniversary

Sasha Hutchings, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Baayork Lee, Kay Cole, Donna McKechnie and Phillipa Soo

The cast of the ground breaking off-Broadway show HAMILTON at The Public Theater – currently the hottest ticket in NYC – pays tribute to A CHORUS LINE on the 40th anniversary of its first performance in the Newman Theater at The Public.

Upon the conclusion of curtain calls, the Hamilton cast recreated the finale of the senior show’s opening number, lining up across the stage of the Newman Theater, holding their real-life resume photos in front of their faces and singing, “Who am I anyway/Am I my resume?…”

Led by their composer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda, the cast of HAMILTON then performed “What I Did for Love” in its entirety for the Chorus Liners, who had been invited to attend that evening.

Helen Mirren – Movie Star, Broadway Star, Subway Rider

As Helen Mirren brings her triumphant performance as “Queen Elizabeth” to Broadway with The Audience (which I saw in London and adored), she shows that she’s not above “the commoners” as she travels through the city via subway 🙂

Darren Criss Is Ready For His ‘Hedwig’ Close-Up

Former GLEE star tweeted out the first look at his “Hedwig” for his upcoming three month run on the Great White Way in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.

Criss follows John Cameron Mitchell, the Tony Award-winning Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Patrick Hall and Andrew Rannells in the role.

Criss made his Broadway debut during a vacation run in the recent revival of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…

He appears in the hit musical from April 29 – July 19.

Broadway: “One-Night-Only” BOMBSHELL Concert Sells Out In One Hour

In just over an hour, all tickets to the upcoming “one-night-only” Broadway concert performance of Bombshell (the up-until-now fictional musical about Marilyn Monroe featured in the NBC series SMASH) were snapped up by the show’s adoring fans.

And this was the PRE-SALE!

Today’s ticket sales were made available to those fans who helped support the event via a spectacular Kickstarter campaign that originally aimed to raise $50,000 to fund the concert, and ended up netting over $318,000. But even those fans weren’t guaranteed seats.

The June 8th performance will take place at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway with a capacity of 1,621 seats. The campaign had 1,485. You do the math.

The Actor’s Fund made an announcement that they plan to refund any Kickstarter backers who were unable to purchase tickets:

“On behalf of the 21,000 people across the country that The Actors Fund helps every year, I’d like to send my personal thanks to the Kickstarter community for your support.

“Based on the overwhelming response to this campaign and our presentation of Bombshell, we have spent the last month exploring every opportunity to allow more people to view (both live or virtually) this one-night-only event. But unfortunately, none of these options were viable and as a result there are some disappointed supporters who were unable to purchase one of the limited number of tickets available.

“As a gesture of good faith, we are offering a full refund to anyone who wants to withdraw their Kickstarter support. Even if you couldn’t get tickets, you’ve helped those in need in performing arts and entertainment — something The Actors Fund has been doing with respect and compassion since 1882.

“Your support assures that 100% of the ticket proceeds from this benefit concert will help actors, dancers, musicians, playwrights, directors and more. Thanks to your generosity, The Actors Fund will continue to be there for everyone in entertainment.”

Due to the difficult scheduling of cast members Christian Borle, Will Chase, Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee and Debra Messing, the event organizers do not have the option of presenting Bombshell for more than one performance.

Unfortunately, various union regulations make a recording of the event impossible.

Music: Josh Groban “Bring Him Home”

Josh Groban’s new album – STAGES – drops on April 28th.

But you get a sneak peak of the collection of theater songs by La Groban today. Here’s “Bring Him Home” from the Broadway mega-hit Les Miserables.

What a voice. You have to wonder who taught him to sing all these year? That person must be a genius.

Groban’s also shared a video of him singing “What I Did For Love” from A Chorus Line.

You can pre-order the album on iTunes here.

My Favorite Thing Today: Jeremy Jordan Sings “Don’t Rain On My Parade”

Broadway favorite Jeremy Jordan killed it earlier this week at the annual MCC Theater’s MISCAST gala concert event with his performance of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from FUNNY GIRL.

The official description of MCC Theater’s MISCAST 2015 is as follows: “MCC Theater’s annual Miscast gala is one of the most exciting and unique theater events in town. Broadway’s hottest stars perform songs from roles in which they would NEVER be cast. And the results are thrilling!
