Behind The Scenes At “Broadway Bares: Strip U” Photo Shoot

#BroadwayBares heads to campus for this year’s theme: Strip U. The wildly popular, modern-day burlesque benefit will explore collegiate life on Sunday, June 18.

Broadway Bares: Strip U will feature more than 150 of the hottest male and female dancers in New York City sharing their hearts – and bodies – with an eager crowd of thousands. The 90-minute show features Broadway’s most talented movers and shakers in a highly choreographed, highly produced spectacular.

Using the collegiate theme as a jumping off point, Broadway Bares: Strip U combines the winking humor of classic burlesque with audience-favorite pop music to create a truly unparalleled show. Imagine the Broadway Bares take on a science lab exploding with sizzling chemistry or sculpted studs exhibiting model behavior in art class. You could wait to watch highlights online, but there’s nothing like experiencing the live show where anything can happen.

The 27th annual edition of Broadway Bares will take place at New York City’s Manhattan Center Events – Hammerstein Ballroom & Grand Ballroom (311 West 34th Street, NYC) at 9:30 pm and midnight on Sunday, June 18. Broadway Bares is produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

“Broadway Bares: On Demand” Raises $1.4 Million

Broadway Bares does it again!

Tony Award winning director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell began Broadway Bares in 1992 as a response to the AIDS crisis and its devastating affect on the Broadway community.

To date,Broadway Bares has now raised $15.8 million for Broadway Cares.

Chiseled morning show hosts, rock-hard reality show contestants and pumped up politicos took over the airwaves at this year’s ratings-raising edition of Broadway Bares, an evening of elaborately staged burlesque production numbers that gave a new meaning to “Bares TV.”

Produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Broadway Bares: On Demand raised an impressive $1,482,724 in two performances on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Broadway Bares: On Demand featured 198 of New York’s sexiest and most talented dancers, entertaining standing-room-only audiences at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The evening was dedicated to the victims, families and friends of last week’s Orlando night club tragedy.

For the first time in the event’s history, Stripathon, an online fundraiser by the show’s cast and crew, was the single largest contributor to the total, raising by showtime a record $612,212.

This year’s guest performers included Tony and Grammy Award winner Billy Porter, Olivier Award winner Lesli Margherita, two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber, Frankie J. Grande, Daniel Dae Kim, Michael Longoria and NY1 News’ Frank DiLella and Roma Torre.

The show also included special “on demand” video appearances by seven-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan, Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, Emmy Award nominee Wendy Williams, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen, Cassandra Peterson as her horror hostess alter ego Elvira and HGTV’s Property Brothers, Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott.

“Broadway Bares Solo Strips” Cancels Over Ian Reisner’s Ted Cruz “Fireside Chat”

Broadway Cares has announced they are canceling Broadway Bares Solo Strips which was scheduled to be held at Reisner’s hotel The Out NYC on May 10th:

It is with regret that we have decided to cancel this year’s edition of the Broadway Bares Solo Strips fundraiser, which was scheduled for May 10 at the NYC club 42West. We cannot in good conscience hold an event at a venue whose owners have alienated our community, as reflected in an April 23 New York Times story and an April 24 follow-up post.

We do business with and accept fundraising support from a variety of people across a wide spectrum of political and religious affiliations. The rich diversity of our community makes what we do together so special. It is a rare instance where the actions of a donor negatively impacts us as an organization and potentially jeopardizes our relationship with others whose support is integral to our success. But when it does occur, in a way that’s blatantly against all we stand and work for, we can’t pretend it doesn’t come with consequences. Silence is not a neutral position. It is complicit.

This is not about partisan politics or punishment. This is about doing what’s right to ultimately ensure that our commitment to the men, women and children we serve cannot be questioned.
