Bill O’Reilly admits mistake on exclusion of Repubs at MLK remembrance

Bill O’Reilly ended his Thursday night show apologizing for incorrectly claiming the night before in two separate segments that no conservatives or Republicans were invited. There were multiple reports to the contrary yesterday and today, and O’Reilly admitted he got it wrong.

O’Reilly thought it was a mistake that the invited Republicans didn’t attend, but admitted his on-air misstatement was “entirely on me,” saying he merely “assumed” Republicans were excluded. He told his audience in his Tip of the Day, “Always check out the facts before you make a definitive statement, and when you make a mistake, admit it.”

At the end of the day, I have to admit O’Reilly does surprise us sometimes.

Bill O’Reilly vs Laura Ingraham on “bible thumping”

Conservative Fox News host Bill O’Reilly made a comment last week while using the term “Bible thumper” while discussing two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. On his show last night, Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham criticized O’Reilly for using the phrase.

“If you’re going to stand up for heterosexual marriage and exclude gay marriage, if you’re going to do that, you’ve got to do it outside the Bible,” O’Reilly explained. “You can’t cite the Bible because you will lose if you do.”

Ingraham told O’Reilly it was “disrespectful” to suggest Christians couldn’t cite the Bible, but was quickly interrupted by O’Reilly.

And on it went.

Fact of the matter is: O’Reilly is right. The conservative anti-gay marriage folks are not winning their argument because you can’t make that argument based purely on “it’s in the bible.”

AND, another fact of the matter is, that’s all they’ve got. Which is why the tide is turning on marriage equality.

Bill O’Reilly slams gay marriage opponents

Bill O’Reilly: “The compelling argument is on the side of homosexuals. That’s where the compelling argument is. ‘We’re Americans. We just want to be treated like everybody else.’ That’s a compelling argument, and to deny that, you have got to have a very strong argument on the other side. The argument on the other side hasn’t been able to do anything but thump the Bible.”

The Rumble 2012 – Jon Stewart vs. Bill O’Reilly

Full “mock debate” between Bill O’Reilly (Fox News) and Jon Stewart (The Daily Show).

During the debate, Jon Stewart refers to O’Reilly as “mayor of Bullshit Mountain” while O’Reilly bought signs for props to underline his points and also proposed the idea that if a voter misses an election, they forfeit the privilege of voting in the next election.

At one point, Jon Stewart asks “Why is it if you take advantage of a tax break as a corporation you’re a smart businessman, but if you take advantage of a tax break as a person you’re a moocher?”

Some funny and interesting stuff in here.

The live internet broadcast cost $5 to view and apparently overloaded the servers making it difficult for those who purchased the privilege to view the show.

The funds raised from the broadcast were to go to charity.
