New Music: Bette Midler Covers TLC’s “Waterfalls”

Set for a November 4th release, Bette Midler’s newest album – It’s The Girls! – is a tribute album to the girl groups who have inspired the Divine Miss M over the years.

“A long time ago I fell in love with voices in harmony,” Midler said in a press release. “In particular, the sound of female voices singing together. There were so many great girl groups in those days, I still listen as avidly as I ever did. This record is a small attempt to honor them for all the joy they brought to me and the world.”

The new collection will feature 15 classic tracks by famous girl groups including the Ronettes, the Supremes, TLC, and the Chiffons, among others.

Check the gorgeous (and slightly mournful) take on TLC’s hit song “Waterfalls.”

Bette Midler explains how she became “divine” to Stephen Colbert

In what could have been a completely light and fluffy talk show bit, Bette Midler brings the divine to Stephen Colbert to talk about growing up an outsider, how she views her younger self and when she actually became “Divine.”

Charming as always, there’s some fun life lessons in the interview. Bette’s recently rereleased her 1980 book “A View From A Broad” available now.

Bette Midler sings WIND BENEATH MY WINGS to dying fan

Anna Greenberg, who was a huge fan of Broadway star Bette Midler, died last month after battling a rare form of cancer — rhabdomyosarcoma — at the age of 28.

Only days before Anna passed away, Bette, whom Greenberg met last December, called Anna in the hospital and sang to her ‘Wind Beneath My Wings.’

Watch the video above. Bette begins singing at the 4:45 mark.

Very touching. And wonderful that Bette Midler would take the time to make Anna’s dream come true.  That’s a great star.

Bette is currently starring in the hit play I’ll Eat You Last on Broadway.

Bette Midler back on Broadway – first time in 30 years

Bette Midler returning to Broadway in John Logan’s new play, I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers:

DVD: Bette Midler – The Showgirl Must Go On

Available today – the great, fabulous and singular Bette Midler. I saw this show twice in Vegas and she wears the mantle of “star” as only she can.

The New York Times exults, “Like all great showgirls, she [Midler] may wear sequins like a second skin, but the woman underneath is all flesh and blood, humor and heart.”

The $10 million extravaganza played over 300 performances in a nearly three-year run at the famed Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace. Taped before thousands in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the 70-minute cavalcade feaures many of Ms. Midler’s colorful and classic stage and screen characters.

Joining her on the gargantuan stage is an energetic corps of talented performers, including the staggering Harlettes, twenty dazzling dancers she calls The Caesar Salad Girls and a 13-piece band. The production was nominated for a 2011 Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special.

If you love divas – great stars who deliver – stars who are singular in their artistry, you will want this DVD.

Bette Midler to Gaga: the “mermaid’s mine”

Apparently Lady Gaga has added a bit in her concert where she performs with a mermaid’s tail while in a wheelchair.

Longtime fans of La Bette know she’s been doing her “Delores Delago” mermaid lounge singer bit forever.

La Bette seems none to thrilled with Gaga’s stepping into the mermaid territory.
