Amy Sky, Olivia Newton-John and Beth Nielsen Chapman
This past Sunday night, Nashville celebrated the best of the best in honoring this year’s inductees into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Olivia Newton-John and Amy Sky performed Hall of Fame inductee Beth Nielsen Chapman‘s moving “Sand and Water” in her honor. The song is included in the new album from the three artists released last week, LIV ON.
Chapman wrote the song in the aftermath of losing her husband to cancer, and has been featured in several films and TV shows.
I’ve loved the song since I first heard it back in the 90s. As a cancer survivor myself, I’m moved every time I hear the words.
It’s especially touching to see Chapman’s son (who is referenced in the lyrics of the song) perform with Newton-John and Sky here.
Olivia Newton-John, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Amy Sky chat with Jenny McCarthy about their new album, LIV ON.
The unique project brings the three acclaimed singer/songwriters together to explore and move through grief – a subject rarely addressed by popular music.
I’ve heard the album and it’s quite fabulous. Trading lead vocals, harmonizing beautifully, the trio delivers a collection of songs that I think many people facing loss will be able to connect to on a deeply emotional level.
Via press release:
This very special collection of songs will help lift the hearts of others going through their own hardship, whatever the cause.
From the uplifting “Stone In My Pocket” to the poignant, “My Heart Goes Out To You,” the songs on the “LIV ON” CD take the listener on a journey of remembrance, toward one of inspiration and hope.
LIV ON also brings listeners epic songs such as Beth Nielsen Chapman’s “Sand and Water” which was created following the passing of her husband.
As well, the three mega-stars have created several brand new songs, including the title track, “Live On,” which born of their own exploration into the pain of loss, the growth that follows and eventually, the journey toward renewed joy.
International superstar and multiple Grammy Award-winner Olivia Newton-John, Grammy nominee Beth Nielsen Chapman and SOCAN Award-winner Amy Sky are lending their vocal and songwriting talents to create “LIV ON,” a collaborative, newly recorded eleven-song collection intended for those who wish to transcend loss while walking a journey toward new-found meaning and hope.
This inspiring new project grew out of the three artists’ personal experiences with loss and illness, which they all survived to “LIV ON” and celebrate each day with a depth of gratitude. This labor of love stemmed from the trio sharing their stories together and expressing their deepest feelings from the most difficult to the most celebratory. It’s the hope that this music can uplift hearts burdened by grief while at the same time bring comfort to the listener.
“As a group, it’s our intention with this album to create songs with a message of compassion and hope,” said Newton-John. “They are for anyone facing a time of challenge in their life, whether it is grieving a loss – or on the journey to health and recovery.”
“LIV ON” – means “to thrive, to have hope and to remember.” The message is clear in the lyrics of the album’s title song:
Live on, Live on
Brighter skies will come again
Cry the tears you cry
And then live on, live on
Love is all we leave when we are gone…Live on
With songs such as “Don’t Know What To Say,” “My Heart Goes Out to You,” “Immortality,” and “Stone In
My Pocket,” the lyrics express different phases of the delicate recovery process while validating the experience
so the listener can heal once again and soar. In addition, each artist revisits songs that have brought love and
light to many of their fans. The album includes new interpretations of “Grace and Gratitude” (Newton-John),
“Sand and Water” (Nielsen Chapman) and “I Will Take Care of You” (Sky).
“LIV ON” will be available on Friday, June 10, 2016.
If you’re anything like me, once in a blue moon you hear a song and it becomes an obsession. The first time I ever heard “Sand and Water” I hit repeat at least 60x.
Beth Nielsen Chapman wrote the song in the aftermath of her husband’s passing from cancer. I think it’s one of the best songs ever recorded. Ever.
I started following Beth, who is a major songwriter in Nashville having written hits for huge folks like Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson and Bette Midler just to name a few.
And then today, this happened. She’s in town working on a new project, and I got to visit with her in the studio.
Keep your silly celebs. Talent like this stops me in my tracks.
And yes, she’s an absolute DOLL.
I found this lyric video of “Sand And Water” but you really should check her out on iTunes.
