Congressional Democrats To Release Full Transcripts of Benghazi Investigation Interviews

Congressional Democrats have finally decided to push back against what they call “misleading” edited leaks of testimony from the committee investigating the attack of the American consulate in Benghazi.

From The Daily Beast:

Democrats are announcing their intention to unilaterally release full transcripts of private interviews that the committee has conducted, starting with the testimony of Hillary Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills. It’s a dramatic move from the five Democrats on the committee, which under the direction of Rep. Elijah Cummings has so far insisted that it won’t leak information to journalists while the investigation is underway.

[snip]

Democratic efforts to press back against the committee have reached an apex in the past week, as they attempt to capitalize on a misstep by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who linked the committee’s efforts to a political effort to hobble Hillary Clinton’s bid for the White House.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee,” McCarthy said on Fox. “What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.”

The Benghazi inquiry is now the longest special Congressional inquiry in the history of the United States. Longer than Watergate, longer than Iran/Contra, longer than the investigation into the shooting death of President Kennedy.

After eight Congressional investigation into the attack in Benghazi, at a cost of over $4 million to American taxpayers, no evidence of wrongdoing has been found.

Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy Admits Benghazi Investigations Meant To Damage Hillary Clinton’s Campaign

They say in Washington, D.C. politics that a “gaffe” is when someone accidentally tells the truth.

The presumed new Speaker of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, did just that when speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity last night when he let the cat out of the bag and admitted that the past year’s Republican led witch hunt regarding the many Benghazi investigations were conducted with the intent of bringing down Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Speaking about his presumed role as the incoming Speaker of the House, here’s McCarthy’s admission:

What you’re going to see is a conservative speaker, that takes a conservative Congress, that puts a strategy to fight and win. And let me give you one example. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?

But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.

Today, Hillary Clinton was asked for her response to the the news that the allegations were orchestrated for political maneuvering:

Newest #Benghazi Investigation By GOP-led House Shows No Wrongdoing By Obama Administration

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is acting like a child who was just told there is no Santa Claus over the new GOP-led House Benghazi report which cleared the Obama administration of any wrongdoing in its response to the Benghazi attack.

“I think the report is full of crap,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Even though this is the sixth government report on Benghazi which essentially clears members of the administration, Graham holds fast to the idea that officials in the White House altered the Benghazi talking points after the attack.

During his Sunday appearance on CNN, host Gloria Borger told Graham that the House report concludes that the administration received bad information at first and did not lie.

“That’s a bunch of garbage,” Graham shot back. “That’s a complete bunch of garbage.”

While Republicans desperately want to use the Benghazi tragedy against Hillary Clinton in the upcoming 2016 presidential campaign, the latest investigation by the GOP-led House again shows there’s no “there” there:

Similar to five other government reports, the one released by the House Intelligence Committee on Friday said that the administration had not intentionally misled the public about what occurred during the attacks in talking points it created for officials to use in television appearances that turned out to be inaccurate.

It also said that no order was given by the military to “stand down” in responding to try to save the four Americans killed in the attacks, a claim that Republicans have made based on the account of a member of the security team in Benghazi that day.

“The effort to turn the Benghazi tragedy into a political scandal never had a factual basis,” said David Brock, founder of Correct the Record, a group that defends Mrs. Clinton in the news media, and author of the e-book “The Benghazi Hoax.”

“The Republican committee report should close the case,” he added. “If the scandal persists into 2016, it will only be for partisan reasons.”

You can watch Miss Graham’s hissy fit below:

GOP-led House Intelligence Committee finds no White House wrongdoing on Benghazi

I can’t IMAAAAAGINE why I haven’t seen this story on Fox News.

I mean, it IS about Benghazi.

From San Francisco Chronicle:

The House Intelligence Committee, led by Republicans, has concluded that there was no deliberate wrongdoing by the Obama administration in the 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, said Rep. Mike Thompson of St. Helena, the second-ranking Democrat on the committee.

The panel voted Thursday to declassify the report, the result of two years of investigation by the committee. U.S. intelligence agencies will have to approve making the report public.

Thompson said the report “confirms that no one was deliberately misled, no military assets were withheld and no stand-down order (to U.S. forces) was given.”

MSNBC’s Steve Benen wrote yesterday:

Taken together, the deadly violence in Benghazi two years ago has now been investigated by the House Intelligence Committee, the Senate Intelligence Committee, the independent State Department Accountability Review Board, the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform, and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

How many of them uncovered evidence of a cover-up? None.

Learn To Speak Benghazi

Animated cartoon by Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Fiore.

As congressional Republicans keep beating the Benghazi drum heading into this fall’s elections, it might be helpful for the rest of the world to understand and master the language of “Benghazi.”

Simplified, the language of “Benghazi” allows Republicans to continue to ignore the business of the US and launch two or three more investigations of the Benghazi attacks.

Because the seven or eight investigations held so far weren’t enough…

Politics.

Mark Ruffalo shuts down O’Reilly Factor reporter on Benghazi

Actor Mark Ruffalo is not having any of the “Benghazi scandal” BS from “O’Reilly Factor” interviewer Jesse Watters at the premiere of “Infinitely Polar Bear” at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Watters keeps trying to push his point of a “scandal” even though an investigation found the Obama Administration was NOT responsible for any mishandling.

Spin, spin, spin, kids.

Rep. Darrell Issa says an “act of terror” is not a “terrorist act”

On September 12, 2012, the day after the Benghazi attacks, Obama delivered a speech in the Rose Garden in which he referred to the attacks as an “act of terror,” saying: “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.” The following day, Obama twice referred to the attacks as an act of terror, once in Colorado and once in Las Vegas.

During an appearance on Fox News’ America Live, Issa accused Obama of minimizing the attacks by referring to them as an “act of terror,” saying: “An act of terror is different than a terrorist attack. The truth is, this was a terrorist attack.”

Perhaps in the world of Washington DC politics, there might be a difference in the phraseology? But in the clip, Issa keeps saying “the American people deserve ‘real time’ information.” I seriously believe that if you tell the American people something was an “act of terror” or a “terrorist attack” – the American people perceive those as the same thing.

This is slicing and dicing, parsing and chopping language to help support the idea that something that didn‘t happen (a cover-up), happened.
