Ben Cohen on the cover of GT Magazine

Because he’s an amazing ally to the LGBT community – AND because he’s seriously attractive – I had to post this.

Ben is on the cover of GT Magazine for the July issue. Rugby star, anti-bullying champion and straight ally Ben Cohen is featured wearing his summer best.

By the way, in September, Cohen will take his recently launched Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation’s anti-bullying campaign and Acceptance Tour aboard Source Event’s Gay Rome to Venice Cruise aboard the world’s largest sailing yacht, the Wind Surf. Ports of call for the cruise include Capri, Taormina (Sicily), Kotor (Montenegro), Dubrovnik, and Hvar (Croatia).

Ben Cohen’s “Stand Up Foundation” website launches

ATLANTA, May 20, 2011 — Ben Cohen, MBE, today officially launched the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, Inc. and StandUpTM social-commerce brand to help fund it. The Foundation is believed to be the world’s first organisation dedicated solely to the cause of anti-bullying, wherever and to whomever it occurs.

Due to recent high-profile instances of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) bullying, the Foundation gives particular focus and attention to this community. The announcement was made in conjunction with the Atlanta kick-off of Mr. Cohen’s “Acceptance Tour 2011,” which will continue on to New York, Washington DC, and Seattle.

Ben Cohen, LGBT ally, quits rugby to fight homophobia and bullying full-time

Ben Cohen

From The Independent: Ben Cohen, England’s World Cup winner, is quitting rugby. The 32-year-old wing has been released by Sale Sharks despite being their player of the season. Cohen has announced his retirement from the sport in order to devote his time to fighting homophobia and bullying through his foundation.

The Independent reports on the announcement from Cohen, 32, who was player of the year for the Sale Sharks this year.

“Cohen believes he could play for another two years but has turned down offers from clubs in England and France. Instead he will focus on heading up the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, which tackles bullying and homophobia,” reports The Independent.

“I have reached the top in my sport,” said Cohen in a statement on his website. “It has been an incredible journey and has put me in the privileged position I am in today to be able to work on these exciting new projects through the StandUp Brand. As athletes, it is not enough just to have strong bodies. We must have strong characters and use our voices to support those who need and deserve it.”

This week, Cohen will launch his 10-day Ben Cohen Acceptance Tour of U.S. cities to include talks, training sessions, and fund-raising events.
