• Marriage equality has picked up another victory, with the first federal judge to rule in Florida

• There’s a new case in Arizona, with an elderly couple about to lose their home

• Couples are fighting back against stalling tactics in Arkansas

• Plus, two major oral arguments are coming up in the next few days

Marriage News Watch – August 18, 2014

From the American Foundation for Equal Rights:

• Major news in Virginia this week, where the Fourth Circuit has refused to delay marriage equality for any longer. Now anti-gay defendants have asked the US Supreme Court to step in at the last minute.

• A judge in Tennessee has upheld that state’s marriage ban, on the basis of outdated arguments regarding procreation.

• And over a dozen couples successfully register marriage licenses in Mississippi during a coordinated day of action.

Marriage News Watch – August 11, 2014

From the American Foundation for Equal Rights:

• Wisconsin organizers have formed a new group called Wisconsin Unites for Marriage
• A federal judge ruled against Wisconsin’s law in June, and oral argument in an appeal is scheduled for August 26th, along with a hearing on an Indiana case
• Rulings from the Sixth Circuit Appeals Court are due anytime
• Utah, Oklahoma and Virginia have petitioned the Supreme Court to rule on each state’s marriage equality appeals

This week in marriage equality:

• Colorado sees new rulings on marriage from multiple courts
• New polls show growing support for equality in western states, but multiple Attorneys General have filed new briefs to stop gay and lesbian couples from marrying
• Another Republican member of Congress has come out in favor of the freedom to marry.

Marriage News Watch – July 21, 2014

This week from the American Foundation for Equal Rights:

• A big win in Florida
• Colorado supreme court orders two counties to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples
• An appeals court sets the date for oral arguments for two states, then says “never mind”
• The Department of Justice says it will file briefs in support of marriage equality when it reaches SCOTUS

Marriage News Watch – July 14, 2014

• The one year celebration of Prop 8 decision at SCOTUS and the return of marriage equality to California.

• Currently awaiting a ruling in Virginia marriage equality case. Two district court decisions in our favor, and the 4th Circuit Court’s decision could happen any time now.

• Also this week, a Colorado judge will allow marriages to continue, even though the state’s marriage ban is still on the books.

• And new marriage equality cases in Idaho, briefs in multiple states, and a new survey in Louisiana.
