Oprah Winfrey at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards
After Oprah Winfrey’s appearance at the Golden Globe Awards last night where she was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, folks are framing her brilliant nine minute speech as totally presidential and the hashtag #Oprah2020 began trending.
Today, CNN is reporting that Ms. Winfrey is indeed considering a run for the White House.
The two friends, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, talked in the wake of Winfrey’s extraordinary speech at the Golden Globes Sunday night, which spurred chatter about a 2020 run.
Some of Winfrey’s confidants have been privately urging her to run, the sources said.
One of the sources said these conversations date back several months. The person emphasized that Winfrey has not made up her mind about running.
A representative for Winfrey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
BULLETIN: I’m told my two of @Oprah‘s close friends that she is “actively thinking” about running for president in 2020 https://t.co/clLEw7VS3a— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) January 8, 2018
You can watch the full electrifying nine-minute speech below.
I asked Stedman if @oprah would run for President. "It's up to the people. She would absolutely do it." https://t.co/rAficpB060— Amy Kaufman (@AmyKinLA) January 8, 2018
Why this massive #Oprah2020 moment?Because Oprah is the antithesis of Trump: A well-spoken, incredibly smart & confident black woman, who energizes people not with hatred & anger, but with hope & vision. When we hear her speak, it reminds us of who we can be as a country.

Presidential candidate? Audience riveted by honest, authentic communicator who hasn’t once called herself a genius. #Oprah2020 #GoldenGlobes— Eileen (@EileenBillinson) January 8, 2018
Oprah went from being dirt poor to becoming an ACTUAL self made billionaire, is intelligent, empathetic, hardworking & has done so much humanitarian work on top of being one of the best communicators on earth, why SHOULDN’T she run for president?! #Oprah2020— Matty (@mattymonsterz) January 8, 2018
President Trump once praised Oprah as a viable presidential running-mate nearly 20 years ago on CNN’s “Larry King Live”Larry King: Do have a vice presidential candidate in mind?

In this week’s podcast:
• The U.S. Winter Olympic team has it’s first openly gay athlete with figure skater Adam Rippon
• Illinois’ ban on the so-called ‘gay panic’ defense has gone into effect
• NYC has its first openly gay and HIV+ City Council Speaker, Corey Johnson
• Newly-elected Alabama Sen. Doug Jones’ hottie gay son served up serious side-eye at his dad’s swearing-in, and the internet loved it
• Another judicial nominee from Donald Trump is severely homophobic – what a shock!
• Ground-breaking TV series “The Fosters” will come to an end after this season
• Alan Cumming will make history starring in a new CBS drama this season
All that and more on this episode of The Randy Report
Axios reports that beleaguered former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has issued a statement of “regret” regarding statements he made that have been quoted in Michael Wolff’s explosive new exposé, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.
Via Axios:
“Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around.”
“My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama.”
“President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus. I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breach for this president’s efforts to make America great again.”
“My comments about the meeting with Russian nationals came from my life experiences as a Naval officer stationed aboard a destroyer whose main mission was to hunt Soviet submarines to my time at the Pentagon during the Reagan years when our focus was the defeat of ‘the evil empire’ and to making films about Reagan’s war against the Soviets and Hillary Clinton’s involvement in selling uranium to them.”
“My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr.”
“Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian ‘collusion’ investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview. There was no collusion and the investigation is a witch hunt.”
“I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president’s historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency.”
Not sure how Bannon squares his statements about the Trump Tower/Russian meeting as being about Paul Manafort when he clearly said, according to Wolff, “They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.'”
After five days of hammering from @POTUS and his allies, it’s Bannon who “cracked like a soft egg.”

TRANSLATION of Steve Bannon’s regret statement: As a Naval Officer who hunted Soviet submarines, I am confirming again that the 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Manafort, Kushner, @DonaldJTrumpJr & the Russians was treasonous. But I only meant Manafort is a traitor. https://t.co/SOr975noy6— Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) January 7, 2018
So Bannon is admitting he use the word “treasonous…”But just that it applied it to Trumps campaign manager, not his son.

After missing out on the 2010 and 2014 Olympic teams, 28-year-old Adam Rippon made history today as he became the first openly gay U.S. athlete to qualify for the Winter Olympics.
But the achievement doesn’t come without some controversey.
After an exceptional short program Thursday night at the U.S. Nationals, Rippon fell on his opening quad jump in the long program and missed two critical triple jumps. Those mistakes landed him in fourth place.
But the U.S. Nationals, while important, don’t dictate the Olympic team.
Due to his strong international resume (2016 U.S. champion, two-time Junior World Champ), he was chosen for the team instead of U.S. Nationals second place finisher Ross Miner, who clearly had the long skate of his career Saturday night.
Rippon joins 2018 National champion Nathen Chen who won with a 40 point lead over his competitors. The third member of the Men’s U.S. team will be 17-year-old Vincent Zhou who claimed the bronze medal last night and many believe to be the future of American men’s figure skating.
Rippon, who came out in 2015, spoke to reporters this week about how much the moment means to him and the LGBTQ community.
“I think in this day and age, it’s so important for you to be proud of who you are. I can’t believe I am where I am today. I was just a little gay kid in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania,” said Rippon. “Growing up I didn’t have a lot of role models. I said if I was ever given a platform and had a chance I would share my story.”
I was recently asked in an interview what its like to be a gay athlete in sports. I said that it’s exactly like being a straight athlete. Lots of hard work but usually done with better eye brows.— Adam Rippon (@Adaripp) December 28, 2017
Stephen Miller. the oh-so-condescending pet of Donald Trump, made an appearance this morning on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper thinking he would show the world how he could own Tapper.
But in the end, Miller only confirmed his status as Trump’s petulant postulant for impertinent fool.
From the beginning, Miller almost appears drunk or stoned swaying forward and back as he spoke in an odd, slow cadence using his biggest and bestest hyperbolic adjectives wherever he could fit them in.
While the appearance was meant to discuss Michael Wolff’s explosive new book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, clearly Miller came in with the scripted talking points the White House has been pushing of late: conquered 17 Republicans in the primary, brought down the Bush “dynasty” and Clinton “dynasty,” brilliant, brilliant, blah blah blah.
Miller also got in some shots at CNN:
Miller: “You get 24 hours of negative anti-Trump hysterical coverage on this network.”
Tapper: “I think the viewers right now can ascertain who is being hysterical.”
Eventually, Miller became unhinged telling Tapper that HE was condescending. Tapper finally had had enough of Miller and closed the segment while Miller was still talking:
“I get it. There’s one viewer that you care about right now and you’re being obsequious and you’re being a factotum in order to please him, okay. And I think I’ve wasted enough of my viewers’ time. Thank you, Stephen.”
Annnnnnd, scene.
Bonus points to Tapper for the effortless inclusion of the word “obsequious.”
If you can’t stomach 12 minutes of Miller, here’s the very end as Tapper dismisses him:
I really encourage you to watch the full performance below, though. It’s pretty wild and wooly.
And just to confirm Miller’s boss was watching:
Jake Tapper of Fake News CNN just got destroyed in his interview with Stephen Miller of the Trump Administration. Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 7, 2018
Miller was accused of only having an audience of one. Trump’s tweet proves Tapper was right. #stablegenius https://t.co/FgifKN3CK8— Tuxedo Mask (@TheLoveBel0w) January 7, 2018
Miller had an audience of one who undoubtedly was pleased by his bizarre performance on @CNNSotu. But does a WH aide going on TV, acting obnoxious and unstable, help a @POTUS who is under siege for being obnoxious and unstable?😳— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) January 7, 2018
With something as serious as a scathing tell-all book w/on record sources, you send your chief of staff on television to defend it, not some white nationalist flunky. But John Kelly, others, probably wouldn’t go on TV and defend against Wolff & Fire and Fury.— Mike Signorile (@MSignorile) January 7, 2018
FWIW, I think @jaketapper did a superior job today in the Stephen Miller interview.— Jeffrey Goldberg (@JeffreyGoldberg) January 7, 2018
Watching The Miller Meltdown on @CNNSotu, I am reminded once more of the great lesson from the legendary Zell Miller: a hit dog hollers.— Paul Begala (@PaulBegala) January 7, 2018
Stephen Miller appeared on State of the Union with Jake Tapper to defend President Trump amid the release of Michael Wolff’s explosive new book and the results were predictably weird https://t.co/Fcptcek4zk— New York Magazine (@NYMag) January 7, 2018
White House Advisor Stephen Miller fakes outrage, goes berserk, forcing Jake Tapper to cut interview https://t.co/8EfF6C7Kad— New Civil Rights (@newcivilrights) January 7, 2018
The Stephen Miller paradox is that he is both the perfect spokesperson for this administration yet the worst possible voice they could put forward. Incompetence and malevolence turned up to 11.— Matthew Miller (@matthewamiller) January 7, 2018
Mind blowing @jaketapper interview moments ago with unhinged Stephen Miller. Must be watched in its entirety. Tapper did the best he could with a stupid, obsequious Roy Cohn wannabe.— Jonathan Alter (@jonathanalter) January 7, 2018

I got something to keep you warm…
Some news items you might have missed:
• With the northeast freezing in record cold temperatures, I think InstaHunk David Lopez (above) has just what folks need to keep warm 🙂 #FurTrap
• One of four men who used gay dating app Grindr to perpetrate hate crimes in Texas last year has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. His three cohorts are awaiting sentencing.
• According to Michael Wolff’s new blockbuster book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, Donald Trump tweeted his ban on transgender military service members just minutes after being presented with four different options to consider in terms of changing the current policy. The briefing was meant to be a preliminary meeting.
• Howard C. Nielson Jr., nominated by Donald Trump to be a judge on the U.S. District Court in Utah, doesn’t think gay judges should be allowed to hear LGBT-centric cases. Following that logic, Nielson shouldn’t be allowed to hear cases involving straight people. Or white people. Or assholes.
• I hate to remind you, but there are simply terrible people in the world that hate the LGBT community. Like virulently anti-gay Linda Harvey who told radio listeners recently that Christians must work to “re-horrify people about the sin of homosexuality.” #Seriously
• You know what else warms up a cold Saturday? Chippendales star James Davis… 🙂
Out singer Calum Scott, of Britain’s Got Talent fame, just shared the official music video for his single “You Are The Reason” and it’s definitely reason to swoon.
The romantic ballad begins quiet and intimate, but artfully builds to a soaring anthem of love.
The video highlights sensitive expressions of love of all kinds – straight, gay, romantic, parental…
It’s a worthy follow-up to Scott’s gorgeous cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.”
“You Are The Reason” will be included on Scott’s upcoming debut album, Only Human.
Watch the video below.

Donald “Stable Genius” Trump
Hoo-boy! What a way to wake up on a Saturday morning!
As the new book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House got an early release yesterday due to Donald Trump’s pumping up the interest in the explosive tome, folks began to focus on the book’s passages relating to possible mental deficiencies.
The Trumpster clearly has had enough of that kind of talk. Taking to Twitter this morning, he wrote:
Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media, are taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence…..Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star…..to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!

“StableGenius” immediately began trending on social media.
And the crowd goes wild:
Well, you’ll show ‘em. Nothing says stable like a midnight tweet about “Sloppy Steve” followed by a 7:00 a.m. tweet calling “hoax” on an investigation that has already led to charges against 4 people. Except maybe maniacal laughter. Try some of that too. https://t.co/X7c8LOhR30— Walter Shaub (@waltshaub) January 6, 2018
In my experience, the people who angrily refer to themselves as stable geniuses are usually neither, and are usually found muttering to themselves on sidewalks. It’s not normal to find one in the White House with the nuclear button. https://t.co/tHWZWkYZ6A— Nicholas Kristof (@NickKristof) January 6, 2018
