Gen V
is the new spinoff from Amazon Prime Video’s hit series following a group of corporate (and sometimes corrupt) superheroes, The Boys. As you probably know, The Boys introduced us to a group of superheroes who are more corporate products than people and more celebrities than actual heroes. The new Gen V takes place at Godolkin University, a school for college-aged super-powered youths to master their abilities and ultimately compete to join The Seven, the elite supes group. https://youtu.be/Nv9v15r2ih0?si=lWZR0tiKSx72h-px It’s at this university that viewers meet Jordan Li, a superhero with the power to transition from a man to a woman and back again. Jordan can not only transition at will, but their different gendered forms have different abilities: When they’re a man, Jordan has super strength and invincibility, and when they’re a woman, Jordan can produce blasts of energy and has super agility. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cxn1Vkjqupi/ Jordan’s arc on Gen V so far has obvious parallels to trans people today. In an early scene, Jordan’s father repeatedly misgenders them, commenting that they’re actually a boy and the time they spend as a girl is a choice. But Jordan insists that their bigender identity is who they really are and that they’ve always been this way even prior to developing their powers telling their dad: “I’m just … the kid addicted to their PlayStation. Who goes to Olive Garden just for the breadsticks. Who binges ‘Property Brothers.’ I’ve never changed, Dad. I’ve always just been me.” The first three episodes of Gen V are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes premiering on Fridays. https://www.instagram.com/p/CwSwPeAxilV/
