During the recent production of Leonard Bernstein’s CANDIDE at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, the creative team had the brilliant idea to have the orchestra join the cast onstage for the finale, “Make Our Garden Grow.” I love the piece already, but to see the musicians drop their instruments and join the a cappella chorus threw me over the edge.
