Hugh Jackman Tests Positive For COVID, ‘Music Man’ Hits Pause

Hugh Jackman has tested positive for COVID-19, and as a result, all  performances of Broadway’s The Music Man are canceled through January 1st.  “My symptoms are like a cold, I have a scratchy throat and a bit of runny nose, but I’m fine,” he assured. “I’m just going to do everything I can to get better ASAP, and as soon as I’m cleared I’ll be back on stage.” The show’s official Twitter account notes that Hugh will be returning the show on January 6, 2022. I’m guessing his standby, Max Clayton, is getting ready to handle “Professor Harold Hill” duties for a week when the show returns.

Last week, the show’s leading lady, Sutton Foster, tested positive for COVID-19 and her understudy, Kathy Voytko, only had one rehearsal before stepping into the role. With the show in previews, rehearsals for understudies haven’t really kicked into gear, so the covers and swings are having to be on their gig without much stage time. Even so, the show has been ‘paused’ since Saturday.

I’m pretty sure the words ‘Hugh Jackman tests positive’ are the coal in a Christmas stocking everyone wanted to avoid. All tickets can be refunded or exchanged at point of purchase. At this time, performances are set to resume on Sunday, January 2, with Jackman returning on January 6.
