DJ Bill Bennett trades the dance floor diaries for 80s-soaked reinvention with “Out Of My Hands,” from his upcoming new album Open Your Mind, steeped in the neon glow of the 1980s.
The newly-released music video, by Bennett’s longtime collaborator Mark Broghese, comes wrapped in the kind of solo-dancer imagery that’s been with Bennett since childhood.
“I just remember as a kid seeing [Flashdance], and I was mesmerized by the solo dance scenes and imagery, and it stayed in my DNA,” Bennett says. “I wanted to be her on that screen — as a 13-year-old boy not understanding his sexuality. This album, I get to explore all that.”
Sonically, Bennett’s gone back to the source: vocoders, vintage beat machines, and the kind of dense, glossy production that defined the 80s club era that shaped him.
