Johnny Manuel Covers Whitney Houston In Stunning Debut On American’s Got Talent
Four million views in only a few days. Johnny Manuel from Flint, Michigan, made quite the splash this week on America’s Got Talent. Before singing, Johnny revealed he’d had a recording contract when he was younger but it didn’t work out. Judge Simon Cowell asked what the budding singer hoped would come from his appearance on AGT. “I hope what can happen is that I’m finally able to be who I am and present my music to the world.” Watch his spectacular take on the Whitney Houston hit “I Have Nothing.” Clearly a fantastic instrument, and he knows what to do with it. I’ll be curious to see if he’s able to make his future performances his own without a past blueprint to follow, or if he’s just a great mimic with a terrific voice. I definitely see the talent. https://youtu.be/OfZNeCjO3gs
Saturday Morning Trump TwitterFest
Today’s Trump TwitterFest includes more slaps at CNN, NBC, Morning Joe hosts “Crazy Joe” Scarborough and “dumb as a rock Mika” Brzezinski, plus a bonus rant for states refusing to turn over voter ID info to Team Trump.
Can anyone explain how any of this helps our men and women in uniform? Or the working poor? Or solve healthcare?
I also think it’s rich that Trump of all people would complain about someone “refusing to give information…” #WhereAreHisTaxReturns?
Word is that @Greta Van Susteren was let go by her out of control bosses at @NBC & @Comcast because she refused to go along w/ ‘Trump hate!’— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 1, 2017
Numerous states are refusing to give information to the very distinguished VOTER FRAUD PANEL. What are they trying to hide?— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 1, 2017
I am extremely pleased to see that @CNN has finally been exposed as #FakeNews and garbage journalism. It’s about time!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 1, 2017
Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 1, 2017

Dan Savage On Trump Tweets: “Sexist Bullying Asshole Reveals Himself To Be Sexist Bullying Asshole”

| Dan Savage |
LGBT activist Dan Savage sat down for a chat on Real Time with Bill Maher last night to talk on several subjects including Trump’s latest Twitter debacle (“Sexist bullying asshole reveals himself to be sexist bullying asshole”) and the Democrats woeful messaging issues.
For instance, Savage tells Maher that Dems should embrace the label of “the urban party” and not run away from it.
And, he says the Democrats could learn something about language from the LGBT community.
“We talked about gay marriage and people were like, ‘yuck’ because ‘gay’ says ‘sex.’
So, we all switched and started saying ‘marriage equality.’ And even people who are uncomfortable with gays doing the gay ‘butt thing’ could get behind equality.
Democrats should look to one of the biggest social movements in the last 30 years and what we achieved with effective messaging and everyone on the same page.”

Legal Recreational Pot Sales Begin In Nevada
Nevada became the fifth state to begin legal sales of recreational marijuana today.
People began buying pot early Saturday, just months after voters approved legalization in November. It’s the fastest turnaround from the ballot box to retail sales in the nation.
Those 21 and older with a valid ID can buy up to an ounce of pot. The millions of tourists who visit Las Vegas and other Nevada cities every year are expected to make nearly two of every three pot purchases.
People can only use marijuana in a private home. It remains illegal to light up in public places, including casinos, bars, convention centers, restaurants, parks and concert halls.
Edible marijuana products, such as brownies and gummies, will be on sale as well, and they are expected to be extremely popular with tourists because they offer a more discrete way of consuming marijuana.
That being said, tourists can’t take it back home as it’s illegal to cross state lines with marijuana. And it’s illegal to mail it through the U.S. Postal Service.
Much like alcohol, you can carry it around or drive with it in your car, but driving stoned is still very much against the law. Not even passengers can smoke or consume marijuana in a vehicle under Nevada law.
A marijuana DUI could land you a fine of up to $1,000, a suspended license and even jail time.
Nevada joins Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska as the only U.S. states to regulate and tax legal marijuana.
Secretary Of Defense Approves Six Month Delay In Transgender Military Recruitment
Reuters is reporting that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Friday approved a six-month delay in allowing transgender recruits to join the U.S. armed forces.
Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement that Mattis accepted a recommendation to defer transgender applicants until Jan. 1.
The Pentagon ended its ban on openly transgender people serving in the U.S. military in 2016 under the Barack Obama administration. It was expected to start allowing transgender people to begin enlisting this year, provided they had been “stable” in their preferred gender for 18 months.
Last year, then-Defense Secretary Ash Carter cited a study by the RAND Corporation saying there were about 2,500 transgender active-duty service members and 1,500 reserve transgender service members. Rand’s figures were within a range, which at the upper end reached 7,000 active duty forces and 4,000 reserves.
Transgender troops have been serving openly for the past year, and have been widely praised by their Commanders.
This delay request came from the Army and Marine Corps chiefs. The Navy is reportedly ready to accept transgender recruits.
According to reports, the initial delay requested was for up to two years. But anonymous sources told the AP that they were concerned about criticism from Congress if the delay was too long.
However, it’s impossible not to consider this didn’t factor into the decision somehow:
U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler says that allowing transgender soldiers to serve costs taxpayers too much money.
Hartzler, a Republican whose district covers central and western Missouri, wants to reverse that policy and pointed to the cost of the surgery as the reason.
“The Obama transgender policy, which was implemented without input from members of Congress, is ill-conceived and contrary to our goals of increasing troop readiness and investing defense dollars into addressing budget shortfalls of the past,” Hartzler said in a statement.
“By recruiting and allowing transgender individuals to serve in our military we are subjecting taxpayers to high medical costs including up to $130,000 per transition surgery, lifetime hormone treatments, and additional surgeries to address the high percentage of individuals who experience complications.”
But LGBT advocates in Missouri say that Hartzler is using this financial argument to mask her opposition to transgender rights.

Top 10 Cities For LGBTs
Housing aggregator Nestpick has commissioned surveys and boiled down the data to determine the Top 100 Cities For LGBTs around the world.
For a city to rank strongly as an LGBT destination, we determined that it must have a vibrant gay dating scene, a lively alternative nightlife, open minded citizens, and low levels of hate crime.
We also took into account the national laws affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, such as the right to get married or adopt children.
Once the data pointed to the top 100, polling was done with LGBTs in each of those cities with at least 2,500 people taking part in each city. Overall, at least 200K folks offered their thoughts.
Click here for the top 100 along with each city’s score, but for now let’s count down the top 10.
