70% Of Americans Believe Tone And Overall Civility In Washington, D.C. Has Worsened Since Trump’s Election

President Trump

A large majority of Americans believe the overall tone and level of civility between Democrats and Republicans in the nation’s capital has gotten worse since the election of President Trump last year, a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds.

From NPR:

Seven in 10 Americans say the level of civility in Washington has gotten worse since President Trump was elected, while just 6 percent say the overall tone has improved. Twenty percent say it has stayed the same.

For comparison, 35 percent in 2009 said civility in the country had declined in the U.S. following President Obama’s election, per a Gallup survey. Eight years ago, 21 percent of Americans in that poll thought civility and the tone of discourse in the country had improved.

There’s also little difference in Americans’ views on civility and the level of discourse across partisan lines.

Just over 8 in 10 Democrats say it’s gotten worse since Trump was elected, while 70 percent of independents say the same thing.

Sixty-five percent of Republicans say civility between the GOP and Democrats has declined since November, with just 12 percent saying it has improved.

Out Music: Superfruit “Imaginary Parties”

Superfruit—a side gig for Pentatonix stars Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying—have released the first part of their new EP, Future Friends.

Speaking to OUT, Grassi explained Superfruit’s electro-funk departure from Pentatonix thusly: “Superfruit is a little more raunchy. It’s a little less G-Rated. With Superfruit, it’s a little more gay-friendly and a lot more open, more sexual, more liberated.”

Check the track’s music video below, produced in color washed environments that perfectly complement the song’s pop-y electronic production.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Soaks Up Rays With Family On Closed State Beach

This past Saturday, incredibly unpopular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (only 15% of NJ approves of the job he’s doing) ordered a shut down of the state government due to a budget impasse with the Democratic controlled legislature.

The shutdown included all state parks and beaches during the July 4 weekend. The shutdown is only the second in the state’s history.

According to reports, even a 25 member Cub Scout pack was ejected from a state park.

Christie’s administration has been ruthless about enforcement, kicking out a Cub Scout Pack with 25 kids from a state park.

But Christie was busted when he and his family were photographed soaking up the sun on Island Beach State Park.

On Sunday, he told reporters he “didn’t get any sun” on Saturday.

“I didn’t. I didn’t get any sun today,” Christie said.

When the pesky, inconvenient photos were brought up to a Christie spokesman, the reply was twisted into explaining that Christie “did not get any sun” because he “had a baseball hat on.”

Asked if this is fair, Christie said Saturday: “Run for governor, and you can have a residence there.”

John Oliver Explains How Sinclair Broadcasting Group Is Affecting Local Newscasts

I don’t usually watch long video clips on the interwebs (short attention span, don’t you know), but I did find this segment by John Oliver on HBO’s Last Week Tonight to be compelling.

I think a lot of Americans would be surprised to find out that their local news is being thoughtfully manipulated by a conservative conglomerate.

Oliver explains how Sinclair Broadcast Group is setting itself up to be the country’s largest owner of local TV stations, and with that ownership the company is dictating content and political bias.

As Oliver points out, with Fox News you know you’re getting a conservative viewpoint. Not so when it comes to these local stations.

With in-house created “editorials,” daily “Terrorist Alert Desk” scares and clips that are dispatched to the stations labeled “must run,” local viewers are being told what to think without really understanding why the content is being presented.

Watch the clip below.

Millions Celebrate World Pride 2017 In Madrid

Organizers say approximately 2 million took part in the WorldPride 2017 festivities in Madrid, Spain, this weekend.

This year’s event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Spain’s first LGBT parade.

Via Reuters:

A convoy of more than 50 floats snaked through central Madrid amid a carnival atmosphere as part of celebrations marking the WorldPride parade, a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights that has been held in several cities across the world since its inception in 2000.

Politicians from across the political spectrum walked ahead of the parade, passing through the Spanish capital which was decked out in rainbow flags to mark the occasion.

“Madrid wants you to remember, and to never forget, that whoever you love, Madrid loves you,” Madrid’s Mayor Manuela Carmena wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

The next WorldPride will be hosted by New York City in 2019 which just happens to be the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.

Trump Posts Video Showing Him Violently Beating CNN

This is, something.

President Trump took the time to tweet a short video of what is clearly a threat of physical violence towards the media.

In the clip, Trump is seen tackling and punching wrestling-style, a man with a CNN head.

Gee, whatever could his message be?

Remember, just three days ago Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the White House press corps, “The president in no way, form or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence.”

Homeland Security Adviser Thomas Bossert saw the tweet as being “genuine” and extolled the virtues of Trump’s Twitter feed:

A CNN spokeswoman issued this statement:

“It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters. Clearly, Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the President had never done so. Instead of preparing for his overseas trip, his first meeting with Vladimir Putin, ‎dealing with North Korea and working on his health care bill, he is involved in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office. We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his.”
