North Carolina: 60% oppose Amendment One
Sixty percent of people in North Carolina oppose a proposed constitutional amendment which would ban gay marriage in the state, a new poll has found.
While only 38 percent of respondents to an Elon University Poll released Monday said they support gay marriage, a majority (60%) said they are opposed to Amendment One, while 32 percent said that they favor the amendment. A majority of respondents (67%) favor either marriage (38%) or civil unions (29%) for gay couples. Only 29 percent say gay couples deserve no legal recognition.
Voters will decide on the measure during North Carolina’s May 8 primary.
If approved, the amendment would bar North Carolina from recognizing the relationships of gay and lesbian couples with marriage, civil unions and possibly domestic partnerships.
Iowa celebrates 3 years of marriage equality
Celebrating three years of equality in the Heartland. And the sky continues to not fall.
On April 3, 2009, the Iowa Supreme Court – in a unanimous decision – extended the freedom to marry to loving, committed gay and lesbian couples in Iowa!
This is a story of American progress and shows, once again, how great this country can be.
Relive the day and Happy Anniversary, Iowa!
US Auto Industry – that Romney would have let go bankrupt – sees strong March sales
![]() |
| Chrysler sales jumped 34% |
So – remember those American car companies that Mitt Romney says should have gone into bankruptcy? Those American car companies and all those American jobs? How about this:
The Big Three U.S. automakers all reported strong March sales, as buyers flocked to dealerships in numbers not seen in years to buy everything from fuel-efficient small cars to large pickups.
Chrysler reported its best month in four years, selling 163,381 cars and trucks in the month, up 34% from a year earlier, and its best results since March 2008. Sales were roughly in line with analyst forecasts for the company.
Chrysler, which four years ago had no models that got 30 miles per gallon or more on the highway, now has six models that top that fuel-efficiency benchmark. Those six models accounted for 29% of its March sales. And that’s before what is expected to be its hottest-selling fuel-efficient model, the Dodge Dart, reaches dealers in June.
President Obama backed the American worker. And he was right. We kept good jobs in the US and it’s helping the economy. Plus a lot of the cars purchased were more fuel-efficient models. Better for the environment.
See how this is all starting to add up as a good thing?
BUT – Mitt Romney says we are headed in the wrong direction. Remember that Detroit.

New York Times on National Organization of Marriage’s “racially divisive strategies”
When a light is shined into the dark corners of American politics, it’s never pleasant to see what scurries away. Last week, a federal judge in Maine unsealed memos from the National Organization for Marriage, one of the most prominent groups fighting against same-sex marriage.
They relate to a case filed over whether the group must disclose the donors that helped underwrite a 2009 ballot initiative that overturned the state’s legalization of same-sex marriage. The group uses its designation as a social welfare organization to avoid federal disclosure, but the memos dispel any notion that the claim has any legitimacy. National Organization for Marriage is a political group, through and through.
The documents brag about its “crucial” role in passage of Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage that was overturned by a federal appeals court. They describe the group’s use of “robo-calls” to scare residents in different states away from supporting marriage equality. They talk of a plan to “expose Obama as a social radical,” but the most appalling portions deal with the group’s racially and ethnically divisive strategies.
The first line of the the article is truly the most visual AND the most accurate. This forced disclosure was/is NOM’s worst nightmare. Now that we understand what they were planning, it’s easy to see why they didn’t want this to come to light.
The New York Times also sends a message to the GOP candidates:
Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich have publicly aligned themselves with the group and signed its pledge to work aggressively from the White House against same-sex marriage.
Now that the group’s poisonous political approach is out in the open, Mr. Romney and the others should be racing to make clear their disapproval.
We detect no stampede.
