“Close Enough” by War Poets

Via press release:

Directed by Toni Trussoni and produced by Chris Bueckers, the music video for “Close Enough” brings the controversial issue of gay marriage to life.

Archival footage and still photographs are sprinkled throughout, showing a pro-gay rally one minute and an anti-gay demonstration the next. The story is set in New York’s Greenwich Village, home of the Stonewall Inn, where the 1969 riots culminated in the first Gay Pride Parade. The video is dedicated to the memory of the Stonewall uprisings.

Trussoni’s choices of locations were both idyllic St Paul and upscale Minneapolis, and St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church — a gorgeous building in St Paul, MN, not far from the band’s Minneapolis headquarters — serves as the location where both couples finally get married.

“This is the first time that I have worked on a project with gay couples as the focal point,” Bueckers explains. “It was a challenge. Some people would not work on the project because of the subject matter, and I was a little taken aback by that. The film community is usually very open and progressive about the topic of gay rights.”

War Poets is a Minneapolis-based band that will release their debut album,  Dulce et Decorum Est around October 1, 2012.

Minnesota is facing a constitutional amendment measure that could ban marriage equality this November.

Romney spokesperson says people would be better off under Massachusett’s healthcare law, the foundation for Obamacare

In an ad by Priorities USA Action, a super PAC supporting Obama,  Joe Soptic, a steelworker who was laid off from a plant owned by Romney-founded Bain Capital, discusses his wife’s cancer and eventual death.

Soptic said his family lost health insurance after he was laid off.

A Mitt Romney spokesperson offered an unusual counterattack Tuesday to the ad: If that family had lived in Massachusetts, it would have been covered by the former governor’s universal health care law.

“To that point, if people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care,” Andrea Saul, Romney’s campaign press secretary, said during an appearance on Fox News. “There are a lot of people losing their jobs and losing their health care in President [Barack] Obama’s economy.”

The health care law Romney helped to craft and signed in 2006 is often described as a forerunner to Obama’s own health care overhaul, which passed Congress four years later without a single Republican vote.

Romney has said his law worked for Massachusetts but wouldn’t necessarily work in other states. He has pledged to grant every state a waiver from Obama’s law on his first day in office and said he would work to repeal the legislation in its entirety.

GOP humor – so funny I forgot to laugh…

“There was a disappointment tonight. I was very embarrassed. I was in this parking lot and there was a man looking for a space to park, and I found a space for him. And I felt badly — he looked like he was sort of in distress. And I said, ‘Sir, here’s a place.’ And he said, ‘That’s a handicapped space.’ I said, ‘Oh I’m so sorry, I saw that Obama sticker and I thought you were mentally retarded.” – Pennsylvania Allegheny County GOP Chairman Jim Roddey, speaking last night at a Romney fundraiser. The crowd roared.

Lindsay Lohan to star in new Lady Gaga video?

The NY Post’s Page Six is reporting Lindsay Lohan may be starring in an upcoming music video for Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP:

Lindsay Lohan’s already landed the next role in her acting comeback: starring in an upcoming Lady Gaga music video off the singer’s anticipated album, “ARTPOP,” sources say.

“Lady Gaga and Lindsay caused a stir last month when they had their ‘sleepover’ at the Chateau [Marmont],” a Hollywood insider told us, adding, “and now it turns out that Lindsay will be starring in Gaga’s new video from her upcoming album.”

But the potential Gaga gig represents a more mainstream opportunity. “Due to Gaga’s superstar status, this would be Lindsay’s biggest [role] by far in many, many years,” a source said.

But others wonder why Gaga’s involving Lohan. “Why this huge artist — who could literally have anyone she wants — chose someone currently at the bottom of the Hollywood food chain remains a mystery,” one observer sniffed.

Joan Rivers removed from Costco after protesting

Comedian Joan Rivers has never had a problem expressing her opinions, however controversial they may be, and the TV personality made it known Tuesday that Costco was her latest target.

Police were called to a Costco store in a Los Angeles suburb after Joan Rivers handcuffed herself to a shopping cart to protest the store, which is not selling her latest book.

The 79-year-old “Fashion Police” host was being filmed by a camera crew Tuesday as she complained that the store in Burbank, Calif., had refused to carry her book, “I Hate Everything… Starting With Me.” No criminal action [was taken]. Sources say she had an entourage with her, including a camera crew and it appeared to be a staged event.

Rivers’ book “I Hate Everything … Starting With Me,” was released in June and contains expletives and racy language.

“My book has been banned from Costco,” Rivers told KABC Television, via phone. “On the back I have two [fake] quotes, one from Marie Antoinette, ‘Let her eat (expletive),’ and the other from Wilt Chamberlain, ‘Even If I were alive, I wouldn’t (expletive) her.’ Costco, who sells condoms by the pallet, Paula Deen books, not good for health … decided to ban my book.”

Son disowned by father in simple letter for being gay

Reddit user RegBarc posted this message with a photo of the heartbreaking letter he received from his dad five years ago:

In August of 2007, I finally built up the courage to tell my father I was gay. The moment I said it, the phone got quiet and he got off the phone after a few “Okay”s. I decided to give him time to process the news. About a week later, and not long before my birthday, I received the following letter:

“James: This is a difficult but necessary letter to write.

I hope your telephone call was not to receive my blessing for the degrading of your lifestyle. I have fond memories of our times together, but that is all in the past.

Don’t expect any further conversations with me. No communications at all. I will not come to visit, nor do I want you in my house.

You’ve made your choice though wrong it may be. God did not intend for this unnatural lifestyle.

If you choose not to attend my funeral, my friends and family will understand. Have a good birthday and good life. No present exchanges will be accepted. Goodbye, Dad.”

It’s important to know just what this zealotry from Bryan Fisher, Maggie Gallagher, Dan Cathy, et al., does to everyday people. I’ve never done drugs, was an excellent student, an obedient child (far less trouble than many of my classmates), didn’t drink until I was 22 because it terrified me, and have had just 1 speeding ticket in my life.

Yet I am still seemingly deserving of this terrible act of hate and cowardice that one person can place on another. 5 years on and I am still doing fine, though this letter saunters into my mind every once in a while. When it does, I say without hesitation: F**k you, Dad.
