LGBT leaders call on Speaker Boehner to stop wasting tax dollars on DOMA defense
Leaders from major LGBT rights organizations have signed a letter calling on House Speaker Boehner to stop wasting tax payer dollars defending DOMA.
The list of organizations includes: Human Rights Campaign, Outserve-SLDN, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund, National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, Center for American Progress, Immigration Equality Action Fund, CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality, and FORGE, Inc.
Says the letter, in part:
Americans have sent a clear message that they want lawmakers to focus on strengthening our economy, creating jobs, and securing a bright future for generations to come. Spending $2 million and counting on harming LGBT people and wasting precious time and resources that should be spent on more important issues is not the way to best serve the interests of the American people. We strongly urge you to take a leadership role on this critical issue and stop pouring taxpayer dollars into a law that discriminates against Americans.
Our country is facing major challenges that we will only solve by standing united. It’s time for us to collectively focus on how we can make our great nation even stronger, and leave behind the archaic laws that exist simply to divide us. To that end, we encourage you to end your taxpayer-funded contract for outside legal services defending discrimination.

New NY Mets pitcher tweets anti-gay slur
Dear Baseball players — stop it with the gay slurs already. I don’t care if you are 20 years old – you don’t get a pass at this point.
An anti-gay slur was recently tweeted, and subsequently deleted, from a Twitter account belonging to righthanded pitcher Noah Syndergaard, 20, recently acquired by the NY Mets.
On Dec. 9, this tweet appeared from that account: “@DMarze89 nice crocs fag lol”
The tweet no longer appears on the timeline for the account.
A Mets spokesman said that the team was looking into the matter. The full context of the tweet was not immediately clear; Syndergaard might be available on a conference call introducing him and d’Arnaud on Tuesday.
If you can make a ton of money playing baseball, that means you are old enough to be a businessman. If you are old enough to ask for a lot of money, you are old enough to understand what is and isn’t acceptable for you and your employer.
Because anti-bullying policies led to Sandy Hook tragedy
“Watching the Memorial service for the twenty-six precious lives taken from us was painful to say the least, but it was far more painful to the God who made America great. Newtown cancelled Christmas so it could properly mourn. How foolish, yet typical of governmental strategy to replace God.
The ‘Interfaith’ service was an affront to Almighty God. Those claiming to be His priests barely mentioned His Name –Jesus! After all, He is the only God there is! What happened? We violently removed the fear of Almighty God from the hearts of our children. We expelled God from school and banished Him from the schoolyard. He was replaced with metal detectors, condoms, policemen, anti-bullying policies, No-gun zones, and violence of unprecedented order. Our strategy has replaced God’s Truth. We are losing our kids because we are ignoring God’s Law.” – Pastor Pat McEwen, in a press release published by Christian Newswire.

Chicago Sun-Times Op-Ed in support of marriage equality
From the Chicago Sun-Times:
It’s time for gay marriage in Illinois. Not in the distant future. Not in the near future. But now. Backers of a same-sex marriage bill announced last week that they were “within striking” distance of the votes needed to pass the “Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act” in the Illinois Legislature. They hope to pull the trigger during the lame-duck session, which begins the first week of January. There is no good reason to wait. Legalize gay marriage bill now. Stand on the right side of history.
The Illinois legislature returns in two weeks. Should the bill pass during the lame duck session, Gov. Quinn has said he will sign it into law.
Easy donation to the National AIDS Memorial
For the month of December, the National AIDS Memorial and AT&T are launching “A Time For Hope; A Place to Heal, ”text to donate campaign” to support the National AIDS Memorial year-round mission to honor and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS; continue to create and maintain a permanent memorial grove located in San Francisco as a place for healing, and to expand youth awareness and scholarship programs to inspire the next generation of leaders to help find a cure for the pandemic, now in its 30th year.
Through a month-long text-to-donate campaign, AT&T is making it possible for any mobile subscriber regardless of carrier to simply text “HEAL” to “501501” to make a $10.00 charitable donation to the National AIDS Memorial.
The National AIDS Memorial received the honor of being designated the official national AIDS memorial in 1996, in large measure because of the leadership of Congresswoman Pelosi who helped pass legislation that was signed into law by President Clinton, elevating the Grove to be of the same stature as the nation’s other 43 federally designated memorials.
