Respect for Marriage Coalition – “Journey”

New from the Respect for Marriage Coalition.

Politico reports:

The $150,000 ad buy is the latest step in a $1 million campaign. The ads will be broadcast on stations in Washington, D.C., including the Sunday political talk shows and will air throughout next week on national cable.

“A growing majority of Americans have come to believe it’s time to allow marriage for gay and lesbian couples. Here’s why,” the ad from the Respect for Marriage Coalition begins. The ad features regular Americans talking about their gay and lesbian relatives and friends. The ad ends with the line, “It’s time to give gay and lesbian couples the freedom to marry.”

Ryan Gosling considers taking a break from acting

Ryan tells the Associated Press that after he promotes all the movies he’s already made, he’s considering taking a break from acting:

“I’ve been doing it too much. I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.

The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to (expletive) it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom.”

I know it’s easy to dismiss a handsome face (and body) but I do enjoy Gosling’s work. We’ll see if his thoughts on “hitting pause” come to fruition.

Arizona: Bisbee poised to approve civil unions

From the LA Times:

Tuesday evening, Bisbee City Council members voted to allow the next best thing to gay marriage. In a first reading of an ordinance, adding a chapter to its city charter, they cleared the way for civil unions. The vote by the seven-member council was unanimous, making it likely to pass on a final vote scheduled in two weeks.

“I think it’s time,” Mayor Adriana Zavala Badal said of the proposal. “We’ve been working on this as a country for a long time.”

The ordinance would only affect those living within the city limits of Bisbee which has a population of about 5,600.

The Arizona state constitution forbids same-sex marriage, but mentions nothing about civil unions.

It’s uncertain if the state will challenge the ordinance or if Bisbee officials even have jurisdiction to pass the measure.

Stay tuned 🙂
