Emmy/Grammy/Tony Award winner Billy Porter has released his 5th studio album, Black Mona Lisa, flexing his vocal powers across club, house, and old-school disco over 12 tracks. The new collection is – no surprise – a vocal showcase for the loud and proud artist mixing pop vibes with some funk/soul flavors for musical depth. Infectious and self-assured, this is easily Porter’s most personal music project of his recording career.
“So many of the songs on my album have a very similar theme – getting to a place of recognizing your own worth and celebrating yourself,” says Porter about the new collection. “The world will try to tell you who you are, and the world will try to decide if you matter. No outside force or entity gets to decide that.” The Grammy/Emmy/Tony Award winner calls the title track “the pinnacle of everything on the album.” “We do not need your tolerance, but we do demand your respect,” he adds. “Knowing your self-worth, your value, being able to stand firmly in your authentic self, those things are worth more than gold, and you will pay me as such.”
In June, Porter wrapped his 25-city nationwide tour, THE BLACK MONA LISA TOUR: VOLUME 1. The stage concerts were hugely successful wowing both fans and critics alike. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote: “Stunning” and “one-of-a-kind,” a “rare kind of performance” with “above all else, transcendent joy.” Louisville’s LEO Weekly called the show “spectacular, inspiring, dazzling.” Check out “Black Mona Lisa” below. The new album is available now on all major music platforms. You can follow Billy Porter on Instagram here. https://youtu.be/kWly6xzRsHY?si=YnT8pru3Qh3E6u6E
