Senate Passes Bill To Reopen Govt, Now Heads To The House

The U.S. Senate has approved a stopgap spending bill that will end the longest government shutdown in American history once the measure is passed in the House of Representatives.

The Senate-passed package will provide stopgap funding for much of the federal government through January 30, giving lawmakers a couple more months to work out agreement on nine of the dozen full-year spending bills. Continue reading “Senate Passes Bill To Reopen Govt, Now Heads To The House”

Apple Removes Gay Dating Apps + ‘Queen Of Versailles’ Opens + More News

• Wired: Apple has removed two of the most popular gay dating apps in China  – Finka and Blued – from the App Store after receiving an order from China’s main internet regulator and censorship authority.

• Broadway World: Tony/Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth has returned to Broadway in The Queen of Versailles, now at the St. James Theatre. The new musical also stars Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham and is directed by Tony winner Michael Arden with music and lyrics by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz. BW has a round-up of the reviews which were very mixed.

• LGBTQ Nation: Four people are dead and more than a dozen injured after a car crashed into the outdoor seating area in front of an LGBTQ nightclub in Tampa, Florida during last Saturday’s early morning hours. Senate votes 60-40 in favor of possibly reopening federal government

Some news items for you as we close out the weekend:

• New York Times: In a 60-to-40 vote on Sunday night, the Senate cleared the way for a spending deal to end the government shutdown. A group of Democrats broke their party’s blockade to vote with Republicans.
