With Governor Andrew Cuomo pushing to legalize same-sex marriage, dueling rallies both for and against the proposed legislation were held Sunday.
A rally against the measure was held in the Bronx along the Grand Concourse. Organized by the National Organization for Marriage, participants say the demonstration was held to call for the preservation of traditional marriage, or the union of one man and one woman.
State Senator Ruben Diaz Senior, a vocal opponent of gay marriage, was among those who addressed the crowd. NOM president Brian Brown told the crowd to believe that there is no actual separation of church and state.
In Manhattan, supporters of gay marriage gathered to call for equal rights. “The Bronx has the highest rate of HIV in all of the boroughs in Manhattan and also was the location of the biggest gay bashing a few months ago and so Ruben Diaz is deciding to hold a hate rally in the Bronx instead of rallying for his own constituents,” said one same-sex marriage supporter.
Diaz’s lesbian granddaughter is among those showing her support for same-sex marriage.
The video of the hate rally is a bit tough to watch as those speaking are practically frothing at the mouth in chiding gays and lesbians for wanting equal civil rights.
The sad thing is, this bigotry is being done in the name of the word of God. But what does the word of God say about collecting a dead spouse’s social security? What does the word of God say about spousal privilege in legal cases? What does the word of God say about the tax code for married couples? CIVIL marriage has nothing to do with some people’s particular interpretation of what they think is the word of God. CIVIL marriage isn’t religious marriage.
Just remember, God don’t like ugly.
March of this year marked the 13th month of private market job growth. The gold bars represent the Bush administration, the blue bars represent the Obama administration.
While it’s taken longer than anyone would have chosen, it’s clear to see the direction we’re going.
Looking at the gold/Bush administration bars showing a deeper and deeper hole as more and more jobs were lost, and then the blue/Obama bars showing clear, steady improvement once his administration’s policies were implemented.

From the NY Times: The campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in New York has been getting a cash infusion from some unexpected sources — conservative donors who traditionally support Republicans candidates and causes.
Their behind-the-scenes financial support — about $1 million in donations, delivered in recent weeks to a new coalition of gay rights organizations — could alter the political calculus of Albany lawmakers, especially the Republican state senators in whose hands the fate of gay marriage rests.
The donors represent some of New York’s wealthiest and most politically active figures.
The new donations represent roughly two-thirds of the same-sex marriage coalition’s fund-raising, making New York the rare state where a lobbying campaign in favor of legalizing gay unions is not being financed primarily by liberal donors and Democrats.
The donations are financing an intensive campaign of television advertisements and grass-roots activism coordinated by New Yorkers United for Marriage, a group of same-sex marriage advocates. The campaign is aimed chiefly at persuading several members of the Senate Republican majority to join most Senate Democrats in backing same-sex marriage, which was defeated in the Senate in 2009.
The newly recruited donors argue that permitting same-sex marriage is consistent with conservative principles of personal liberty and small government.
Some of those involved have made what might be termed the pro-business argument for same-sex marriage, arguing that the legalization of same-sex marriage would help keep New York economically competitive.

Archibishop Timothy Dolan on his blog wrote that “history, natural law, the Bible…the religions of the world, human experience, and just plain gumption tells us” marriage is between a man and a woman. The definition of marriage is hardwired into our human reason.”
“To tamper with that definition, or to engage in some Orwellian social engineering about the nature and purpose of marriage, is perilous to all of us.”

Seriously. What scare tactics.
Or we could just say “liberty and justice for all.”
They have a poll posted asking if Dolan is right or if his opinion is “hateful.”
Hmmm… why is it always the ones who are of a “higher morality” that always seem to be involved in things like this?

Rumors are swirling that the season finale of GLEE will feature the death of one of the characters.
Some rumors say it will definitely be a female – with whispers as wide ranging as Mercedes to Sue’s sister to Idina Menzel’s character.
Other’s say a male character – maybe Karofsky, the secretly gay character who bullied Kurt into switching schools, is being killed off via suicide. This is very plausible considering that Karofsky, though not a major player on the show, has meaningful ties to the rest of the characters.

With Sen. Herb Kohl announcing his retirement from the US Senate, sources close to Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., have told the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund she is very likely to run for the U.S. Senate seat. If Baldwin runs and wins, she would become the nation’s first openly LGBT member of the U.S. senate.
“This would obviously be a top priority for us. Tammy Baldwin has been an outstanding congresswoman, and she’d be an outstanding senator,” said Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, which has endorsed Baldwin repeatedly.
“This would be a remarkable milestone for LGBT Americans. Congresswoman Baldwin is one of the most admired public officials I know. She would have the strong support of those who want to see our economy work for all Americans, and who believe that all voices deserve a place at the table,” Wolfe said.
I’ve met Rep. Baldwin here in Las Vegas and she’s really smart and inspiring. Talking to her you really get a sense that she not only ‘means’ to do the right thing, but she ‘does’ the right thing.
Here’s hoping we get good news about a senate run in Wisconsin soon.
