Santorum Loses Again
From the Advocate: Rep. Michele Bachmann can claim she was the first to actually sign a document pledging her faithfulness to a list of homophobic beliefs, but Rick Santorum was a close second.
The Family Leader, which invented the pledge as a litmus test for its endorsement, clarified that although Santorum signed the document on Friday, he was the first to make contact after “The Marriage Vow” was announced on Thursday.
It seems Bachmann must have beaten him to the fax machine with her signed copy. The results of the photo finish were reported by the Des Moines Register.
The two were racing to profess their belief that gay men are a public health risk, that gay parents are inferior to straight parents, and that homosexuality is a choice. Those are a few of the boldly inaccurate arguments made by the pledge for banning gay marriage with a constitutional amendment at the federal level.
Santorum has long held claim to the socially conservative vote, but Bachmann has been outshining him in polls in Iowa and elsewhere. For example, the well respected Des Moines Register poll taken of likely caucus goers in late June found 22% support Bachmann while just 4% went for Santorum.
The Family Leader’s endorsement could be coveted since it’s a powerful force in the state, having successfully campaigned to unseat three Iowa Supreme Court justices who legalized gay marriage there.

Desean Jackson, Eagles wideout, uses gay slur on radio
During an appearance on an XM radio show, a caller asked whether Eagles wideout, Desean Jackson, if he had ever “got his dick knocked in the dirt.” Jackson replied, “What kind of question is that?” and then called Troy from Tennessee a “gay ass faggot.”
The host of the XM satellite radio show – Rude Jude – told later said that Jackson shouldn’t apologize because he “is a hood dude,” and for “hood cats, the worst thing you can call someone is a bitch or a faggot. I don’t think he’s homophobic. He’s joking.”
On Saturday, Jackson issued this statement:
“In a recent radio interview a caller got really confrontational with me,” Jackson said through a spokesperson. “I got very heated with the caller, took it a bit too far and did not mean to offend anybody. I meant no disrespect and a better choice of words was needed.”
Jackson’s comments come only days after former Giants’ hero David Tyree said that he believed legalizing gay marriage in New York would be the first step towards society devolving into anarchy.
Basketball stars Kobe Bryant and Joakim Noah were ordered by the NBA to pay fines after using gay slurs to attack a referee and a fan earlier this year.
National Organization for Marriage to hold anti-gay rallies in NY on first day of marriage equality
Well, isn’t this being a sore loser.
The anti-gay hate group, National Organization for Marriage, is organizing rallies in NY cities on the first day LGBT couples can get married in NY state. Despite overwhelming evidence that NY supports marriage equality, NOM is still crying that they didn’t get to deprive LGBT NY-ers of equal rights.
Sad, kids. Just sad.
Las Vegas Rainbow at Sunset
Who knew we get rainbows in Vegas? My friend John Genovese called me as the sun was setting and told me to walk outside. Apparently there were double rainbows hanging out at sunset today.
I could only see one from my backyard, but it was really cool. The picture doesn’t do justice to how vibrant it actually was.
Which reminds me of youtube clip from a while back about a guy FREAKING out about the beauty of a rainbow. I had to include the clip below. If you haven’t seen this, keep watching. The guy’s reaction gets better and better. He goes on quite the emotional rollercoaster.

Unemployment high while CEOs income increases 18%
A USA TODAY analysis of corporate filings through early July shows CEOs reaping huge 2011 payouts.
“Some of the gains are humongous,” says Paul Hodgson, a compensation expert for GovernanceMetrics, who expects more executives to reap big 2011 payouts.
Wall Street’s 2½-year bull market is fueling mega-paydays across a swath of corporate America, from aging industrial giants to young dotcom firms. Yet it also is highlighting the growing wage divide between executive suites and rank-and-file employees.
• U.S. workers averaged $46,742 in 2010, up 2.6% from 2009.
• A June GovernanceMetrics analysis found average compensation among S&P 500 CEOs rose to $12 million in 2010, up 18% from 2009 — and that’s not counting the potential multimillion-dollar value of stock or stock options, which are granted at set prices and provide holders profits as stock values rise.
How is it that CEOs are making more and more – showing corporations have money to hire more workers – but unemployment stays so high?
