Chaz Bono cruises through week one of DWTS

Chaz Bono did well in Week One, landing in the middle of the pack.

However, after changing his name, Ron Artest found no one wanted to vote for World Peace.  He mentioned heading out to inspire The Chippendales as he left the show.

Harry Connick Jr. came on stage to debut the title song from his upcoming Broadway show, “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” with an assist from Kym Johnson and Tony Dovolani. Connick clearly emjoyed the spectacle of the arena. He also revealed his favorites: J.R. Martinez (his sister’s in the Army). He’s also “feeling the Chaz vibe, man.”

Joni Mitchell – “Both Sides Now” 2000

I love how this version contrasts with the original.

Listen to the 1970 version, then this one. This song is about innocence and wisdom all at once. The symbolism of watching her when innocent, then wise, is breathtaking. This is how the song should be experienced.

I hate that it has taken me time to understand it. Even though I could guess that at a younger age that I would look back and miss things, I never knew how powerful the feeling might be.

Americans Favor Almost All Proposals in Obama’s Jobs Plan

From Gallup: Americans agree with a number of the job-creation proposals included in Obama’s jobs plan — specifically including the ideas of providing tax cuts to small businesses; providing additional funds for hiring teachers, police officers, and firefighters; and giving tax breaks to corporations for hiring the long-term unemployed.

Slightly less than half favor reducing Social Security taxes for workers and employers.

Ben and Jerry’s new flavor: Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

Ben & Jerry’s has introduced “Schweddy Balls” ice cream, named for the beloved SNL sketch featuring Alec Baldwin, Ana Gasteyer, and Molly Shannon.

Hysterically, American Family Association wants its members to tell Ben & Jerry’s to “refrain from producing another batch with this name or any other offensive names or you will no longer be able to purchase their products.”

The AFA also knocks Ben & Jerry’s Hubby Hubby ice cream, produced to raise awareness of marriage equality, and laments “that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry’s”:

Ben & Jerry’s announced their newest ice cream flavor which sounds anything but appealing. Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with. The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.

Soldier comes out to his dad – DADT is History

This really is one of the hardest things a guy can do – tell his dad he’s gay. Get to the 2:35 mark. Very simple but moving.

April 18th of this year, this soldier began a series of headless videos on youtube to document his coming out. I really encourage you to watch his other videos to see his journey. Thousands have watched him address a lot of the issues gay men face as they approach owning who they are. Today was the first day – with the repeal of DADT – that we saw his face and watch him tell his father he is gay.

123,000 views in less than a day.

Follow his youtube journey to coming out here.

DADT is history.
