Herman Cain says “Blame yourself”

Herman Cain recently gave an interview in which he said about the “Occupy Wall Street” movement:

““I don’t have facts to back this up, but I happen to believe that these demonstrations are planned and orchestrated, to distract from the failed policies of the Obama administration,” Cain said.

“Don’t blame Wall Street, don’t blame the big banks — if you don’t have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself!”

If you would like to read countless stories of people who went to school, went to work and found their employers or Wall Street or lots of others DIDN’T live up to their end of the bargain, check out WE ARE THE 99 PERCENT website.

There you can read many, many stories of people do did the “right” things only to have big business, Wall Street or others not hold up their end of the bargain.

The bargain: you study hard, work hard – you get rewarded for such.

The equation is broken.

Liza Minnelli in Concert – Las Vegas 2011

photo by Scott Harrison – www.harrisonphotos.com

Last night, Michael and I had a great time seeing the Academy Award/Tony Award/Grammy Award/Emmy Award-winning legend Liza Minnelli at the Hilton Hotel here in Las Vegas.

So much has been written about Liza, her amazing career and incredible talent. There’s really not much to add to the lengthy and well-earned praise but to emphasize THIS is a truly great star.

A lot of talented performers/singers/actors out there – but star quality is something you are quite simply born with.

From the moment she took the stage the audience was completely in heaven. I lost count of how many standing ovations occurred throughout the evening.

Of course, she sang her iconic songs Cabaret, New York New York and World Goes ‘Round, to wild applause. But some of the even better moments came when she sang from her new CD “Confessions.”

“Confessions” is easily the most intimate and revealing recording of her career. The songs exploit her fantastic “story-telling-through-song” gift. A collection of American classics, “Confessions” features songs arranged simply and elegantly, with accompaniment by her long-time pianist, Billy Stritch – a musical star in his own right.

Special thanks to the fab Jim Caruso for helping get the much sought after tickets, and for taking us backstage to meet the legend herself. Jim performed with Liza for years and is the talented host (with often musical director Billy Stritch) of NYC’s “Cast Party,” which recently had a big splash here in Las Vegas.

She performs again tonight here in Las Vegas at the Hilton. If you haven’t seen Liza live, I highly recommend it. You don’t see many true legends in your lifetime.

Ladies – let a sexy guy remind you about self-breast exam

For Breast Cancer Awareness month, I give you the “Your Man Reminder” video. And thanks to my friend Joel Benjamin for the tep.

The video is very fun and points to an app women can download to remind them to do breast self-exams monthly. This app is a regular reminder and a little bit of encouragement from a hot guy of your choice to check your breasts.

Another thing I like about this video is it is very light-hearted and fun. Which is a good approach to get women to do self-exams without getting too “technical” or “scary” about cancer.

While a breast self-exam can never take the place of a proper medical exam, by doing self-breast exams on a regular basis women basically build a mental “data base” of what is ‘normal’ for them. That way, should they find something unusual or irregular, they can make an appointment with their doctor for further exam. The main point being – early detection is KEY.

Olivia Newton-John, a breast cancer ‘thriver’ and advocate actually helped develop a simple device called ‘The Liv’ to help facilitate self-exams. The LIV is a self-examination aid that is designed to help women examine their breast tissue. It molds to the skin and provides a smooth surface for the fingers to easily glide over the breast tissue. I highly recommend checking out the link to The Liv. Great, simple idea.

Ladies! The Chippendales to attend breast cancer awareness event – Tao Beach at The Venetian in Las Vegas

Love this – sooo Las Vegas. A fun breast cancer awareness event benefiting Susan G. Komen tomorrow at Tao Beach – “Save 2nd Base”. Fun title.

The Chippendales will be attending to give away tickets to their show and their new calendar plus do some photo ops.  Tough job but someone has to do it, I guess.

By the way, did you notice that everyone in pink bathing suits receives OPEN BAR from 1-2PM?

So show up at Tao Beach tomorrow at the Venetian Resort and Casino for some fun.

Employment numbers get slightly better

These are the Labor Department statistics that encouraged economists and investors today:

— In September, employers added 103,000 jobs.
— In August, employers added 57,000 jobs; previously the department said no net jobs were created that month.
— July’s job total also was revised upward, to an increase of 127,000 from 85,000.
— After a long, brutal slump, the construction sector added 26,000 jobs.
— The workweek got a little longer.
— Average hourly earnings rose 0.2 percent after dipping in August.

Not super-duper news, but at this point, I’ll take whatever means we are moving forward.

Chris Hemsworth in “Thor”

This past summer was quite the season for super-hero adventure movies.

Looking back, I forgot how much I enjoyed THOR with Chris Hemsworth. Whatever the movie making magic used that created Asgard, the world of the gods, was – it was gorgeous. As was Chris Hemsworth.

I’m looking forward to seeing how bringing all the Marvel characters together for AVENGERS works out. It could be great, or it could be a difficult thing to balance all those characters well. We’ll have to see.

If you missed THOR, you can see more about it here. I liked it. Nice distraction from a busy day.

And you can see more of Chris Hemsworth below.  🙂

Right Here All Over – from Occupy Wall Street

From ThinkProgress: Speaking at the social conservative Value Voters Summit today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor maligned the Occupy Wall Street protests and the wider 99 percent movement as a “mob” that is out to “divide Americans”:

CANTOR: I for one am increasingly concerned about the growing mobs occupying Wall Street and the other cities across the country. And believe it or not, some in this town have actually condoned the pitting of Americans against Americans.

Believe it or not, Cantor has — by his definiton — “condoned the pitting of Americans against Americans” when he endorsed the Tea Party movement.

Eric Cantor calls Occupy Wall Street protestors a “mob”

I don’t recall Mr. Cantor calling the Tea Party folks a “mob” when they “stood up” for themselves. He described the Tea Party as folks who brought “focus to fiscal issues.”

I’d say that’s what the folks protesting on Wall Street are doing.

Funny how it never cuts both ways for his side.
