Chris Matthews: Newt ought to be ashamed of himself

Chris Matthews on Newt Gingrich’s assertion that President Obama has “put more Americans on food stamps than any other president.”

I agree with Chris that bringing up food stamps right now, and in this context, is political ‘code’ for Gingrich’s base.  He knows he’s taking the back door to bringing up race issues, which most of us hope were long behind us.

Newt is making the racial charge here and putting the blame of poverty on the poor.  “It’s their fault” is what he’s saying.

Sad statement that this plays in anywhere in America today.

Mitt Romney makes clear his position on equal rights

Mitt Romney may be feeling the heat from a recent vote by a group of evangelical leaders to back Rick Santorum’s bid for president.

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who once campaigned as a social moderate, is now talking up his opposition to marriage equality as he stumps in South Carolina.

ThinkProgress quotes Romney in a speech this morning objecting to President Obama’s decision not to mount a legal defense of DOMA:

“This is a president also who is attempting to pave the way for same-sex marriage in our nation by refusing through his attorney general to defend the Defense of Marriage Act,” Romney said. “I will defend that Act and I will also defend marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman.”

Just keep track kids.  This is what Mittens is saying now.  Who knows what he’ll say in the general election…

From the premiere of “A Few Best Men”

With Stephan Elliott (director) and Olivia and Michael right before they hit the White Carpet
for the premiere of “A Few Best Men”

Olivia Newton-John, Xavier Samuel (also from the Twilight movies),
Michael and I at the post-premiere party for “A Few Best Men”
The cast faces the photographers before the screening
at the premiere

Quick video of the upstairs section of the party right before the cast
got there.  I ran there when we arrived because the downstairs was packed
already as you’ll see on the video.  I’m a bit claustrophobic, so I went
upstairs to get a breath of air.  Within minutes the upstairs was packed as well.
Great party for the cast after the movie was so well received by the audience.

George Clooney speaks to gay rights after Golden Globe win

After accepting his Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his performance in The Descendants, George Clooney answered questions from journalists gathered backstage.

One asked the actor, who’ll soon star in a one-night only reading of Dustin Lance Black’s play 8 as Prop. 8 attorney David Boies, his opinion of Mitt Romney and his antigay record.  Let’s go to the video tape!

One million signatures to be submitted for Gov. Scott Walker recall

Opponents of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker have about 1 million signatures on a petition to force a recall election, according to a state Democratic Party news release.

If the state’s Government Accountability Board rules that at least 540,208 signatures are valid and any legal challenges fail, Wisconsin will hold the third gubernatorial ouster vote in U.S. history.

One million signatures is 185 percent of the minimum threshold. There is no doubt about it: Gov. Scott Walker will face a recall election.
