Episcopal Church may allow marriage blessing for same-sex unions

Good news out of the Episcopal Church, via The Los Angeles Times:

Sixteen years after allowing gays and lesbians to become priests, the Episcopal Church appears poised to introduce a rite that would specifically bless the unions of same-sex couples.

If the liturgy is approved, which is expected, Episcopalians will become the first major denomination to endorse such a ritual for homosexual couples.

On its face, the blessing seems similar to that of a marriage rite — including “I do,” “we have gathered together today” and an exchange of rings. Notably absent are the words “husband,” “wife” and “marriage.”

The committee says that while the liturgy is not called “marriage,” there are “significant parallels.” A hearing on the liturgy will be held on Saturday, but no vote is set as of yet.

BREAKING NEWS: NY Times reports gay men like MAGIC MIKE movie

The New York Times has cracked the story of the century: gay men enjoy a movie featuring hot men taking off their clothes.

From today’s edition.

…Interviews around the country indicated that gay men have been flocking to “Magic Mike” in numbers not seen since the release of “Brokeback Mountain” in 2005. But unlike that film, about two cowboys in love, there’s nothing explicitly gay about “Magic Mike.” Unless you count muscled men thrusting their pelvises without pants. That was enough for Bill Venne and his friends.
“Let’s be honest: it’s men taking their clothes off,” said Mr. Venne, 49, who lives in Minneapolis and saw “Magic Mike” on Sunday with 16 gay men and one straight woman.

Sue Kroll, president for worldwide marketing for Warner Brothers Pictures, said the studio coordinated a “well-concentrated and tailored” campaign intended to capture gay moviegoers’ attention. The demographic wasn’t part of the studio’s initial marketing push, but that quickly changed, Ms. Kroll said, once it became clear there was interest among gay men.

“Once it became clear”? SRSLY?

They were surprised to find gay men find movies with handsome men taking their clothes off interesting?

Anti-gay rant on gays “cashing in” our new marriage deductions

“Why do YOU pay taxes ? Is it so two professional, sports car driving gay yuppies in L.A. can flash their wedding rings in Starbucks for bragging rights ? Is that really why you give up your hard earned money ? Because under the law – the purpose of marriage is for you to invest in the creation and rearing of the next generation that will care for us. The fact that not every male-female union will produce children – for a variety of reasons – is EXACTLY the reason EVERY male-female union is encouraged through marriage; in the hopes of maximizing a return on our investment. Once again liberals ensure they hurt children FIRST, by robbing taxpayer benefits intended to aid families in the creation and rearing of children in order to hand it over to two guys who want to use your money for their personal romantic gestures. This is the reason marriage is a STATE INSTITUTION – not a private endeavor. As thousands of newly married queer couples burden the system and eagerly cash in on their new marriage deductions and subsidized benefits, you and your children can sit contentedly at the tax office paying your newly increased compensatory rates with the warm knowledge in your hearts that your children’s sacrifice will fund volumes of sexy toys and the new HIV prevention pills for glowing. happy married ‘gay’ couples cashing in. So, how many suckers are out there…..?”

Seriously kids. Someone is now saying gays are “cashing in” on our new tax deductions and flashing our wedding rings at Starbucks. This is now an argument for discrimination.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Preview of new STEEL MAGNOLIAS remake

The 1989 film, adapted from Robert Harling’s autobiographical play, is a favorite of LGBT viewers. “We believe the movie is about community… and it’s a community of all types who fit together by a commonality of family,” Meron said to The Advocate when the project was first announced. “Very much like the gay community. We think that there are a lot of elements that gay viewers can relate to, with these ladies hanging together, growing together and dealing with the eccentricities of life and the strength they must face when there is a death among them at such an early age.”

My husband Michael can quote every line from the original movie.

Queen Latifah, who stars as M’Lynn, also serves as co-executive producer, along with producing team Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, with whom she collaborated on Chicago and Hairspray.

Rashad and Woodard will costar as bickering longtime friends Clairee and Ouiser, respectively. Grammy winner Jill Scott will play beauty shop owner Truvy, Pariah’s Adepero Oduye has been cast as her awkward protogee Annelle, while Tony Award-nominated Condola Rashad, daughter of Phylicia, will play the pivotal role of Shelby.

Lifetime has yet to announce the broadcast date for the film.

CBS News on the evolution of coming out

CBS News This Morning takes a look at the reaction to Anderson Cooper’s coming out and what is says about our changing society.

Much is different in the 15 years since Ellen DeGeneres risked her career by coming out to the world, according to the report.

Since Ellen came out, US households have gotten to know other TV gays on shows like Will & Grace, Modern Family and Desperate Housewives. I think the open portrayal of these characters has helped Americans grow more comfortable with gays in daily life.

Cooper’s announcement on Monday was hardly a surprise to anyone, and his career will likely not take a hit because of it.
