The queer coming-of-age drama Heartstopper picked up two trophies at the Children & Family Emmy Awards on March 2, including a major acting honor for star Joe Locke.
Locke took the win in the category for “Outstanding Lead Performer,” beating his on-screen love interest Kit Connor as well as such heavy-weights as Lisa Kudrow and Jude Law.
This is Locke’s first Emmy win after previously being nominated for the show’s debut season back in 2022. That year, Connor took home the award, but this was Locke’s moment in the spotlight.
The show’s second Emmy Award of the night went to creator and writer Alice Oseman who was honored for “Outstanding Writing” for the episode “Journey.”
The episode follows Charlie as he seeks treatment while struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder and anorexia, tackling mental health themes with care and honesty.
Netflix confirmed last year that the series will wrap up in a feature film titled Heartstopper Forever, due for release this summer. It will follow leading characters Charlie and Nick as they try and maintain their relationship long distance, as Nick heads to university.
