The live-filmed version of the four-time Tony Award-winning musical Merrily We Roll Along is now available to watch on digital platforms. This is a must-see for music theater fans.

I saw the production on Broadway in 2023  –fantastic!– and prayed there would be a good video version of the show, and this surpassed my expectations.

Originally produced on Broadway in 1981, the Stephen Sondheim musical has since become a cult classic.

Spanning two decades, Merrily We Roll Along traces the complex, often heartbreaking unravelling of a once-unbreakable friendship between composer Franklin Shepard (out actor Jonathan Groff) and his two closest friends — playwright-lyricist Charley (Daniel Radcliffe) and writer Mary (Lindsay Mendez).

But this is no ordinary story. Told in reverse, the film winds backwards through time, beginning in fractured adulthood and journeying back to the bright-eyed optimism of youth — when everything still seemed possible.
