Fans of the romantic series “Heated Rivalry” rejoice! The gay hockey-themed drama has been renewed for a second season.
Created by Jacob Tierney for Crave, the Canadian streaming service, “Heated Rivalry” was also released on HBO Max in the U.S. HBO Max will continue to license the series for its second season without producing.
Based on the Game Changers book series by Rachel Reid, “Heated Rivalry” follows hockey rivals Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie).
The official synopsis reads:
“Shane and Ilya are two of the biggest stars in major league hockey, bound by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands.”
“What begins as a secret fling between two fresh-faced rookies evolves into a years-long journey of love, denial and self-discovery. Over the next eight years, the pair chase glory on the ice while struggling to navigate their feelings off it.
“Torn between the sport they live for and the love they can’t ignore, Shane and Ilya must decide if there is room in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile and as powerful as real love.”

Blending slow-burn romance, high-stakes athletic drama, and queer identity exploration, the show has been a massive hit. With each new episode, fans have generated tons of viral buzz around the leads’ emotional intensity and tender-but-steamy intimate scenes.
Along with Williams and Storrie, the cast includes François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., Christina Chang, Dylan Walsh, Sophie Nélisse and Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova.
“Heated Rivalry” debuted on November 28. The first two episodes focused on Ilya and Shane, and the third shifted focus to pro hockey star Scott Hunter (François Arnaud) and smoothie barista Kip Grady (Robbie G.K.).
