Report: More Than One Third Of New ICE Recruits Failing Basic Fitness Tests

According to a report by The Atlantic, more than a third of new ICE recruits are failing basic fitness tests as the Trump administration pushes to rapidly expand the agency.

The basic fitness test consists of being able to do 15 push-ups, 32 sit-ups and run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes.

Out of curiosity, I tried this. I did the 15 push-ups and 32 sit-ups in 55 seconds, and was able to run the 1.5 miles in 9 minutes – and I’m a 62-year-old guy in average fitness. So, there’s that…

New recruits had been asked to “self-certify” they could meet ICE’s fitness standards.

Field offices are now being asked to conduct preliminary screenings on candidates before they’re sent to the training academy in Georgia.

The Trump administration is pushing to put 10,000 new deportation officers on the streets by January, which means doubling ICE’s officer corp in just a matter of months. #MovingTooFast

In order to attract new recruits, ICE has been offering up to $50K signing bonuses and more.
