There was no way Saturday Night Live was going to let Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s insane military speech this week go untouched as the long-running sketch comedy series began Season 51.
And returning host Bad Bunny used his opening monologue to address backlash surrounding his being announced as the 2026 Super Bowl Half-Time Show performer.
Colin Jost killed it with his riff on “Secretary of War” Hegseth’s unhinged address to U.S. military leaders this week:
“I summoned all of you here today to address a serious problem, okay? Our military is gay as hell! Thanks to failed, liberal policies, our army has never been gayer, and yet, it’s also never been fatter. Make that make sense.”
“In summary, this is the whole meeting: no fuggos, no fatties, no facial hair, no body hair. Just hot, shredded, hairless men, who are definitely not gay.”
In his opening monologue, 3-time Grammy winner Bad Bunny poked fun at conservative criticism of him being tapped to perform at the big game, noting that everyone is excited about his performance, “even Fox News!”
From The Hollywood Reporter:
SNL then cut to a montaged clip of pieced together segments that made out Fox News hosts saying, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president.”
“I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy. He then began speaking in Spanish.
“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” he said in Spanish. “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
He finished his monologue off by noting in English, “And, if you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
Bad Bunny, who’s Puerto Rican, is obviously a U.S.-born American. I don’t recall folks having an issue with Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, U2, Shania Twain, Sting, Coldplay, or Phil Collins (all non-U.S. born) heading up the Super Bowl shindig.
