During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” this morning, Vice President JD Vance defended Donald Trump’s ongoing give-and-take “summit meetings” approach to bringing an end to the deadly Russian invasion of Ukraine.
And in doing so, revealed he’s a poor student of history.
JD Vance: “This is how wars ultimately get settled. If you go back to World War 2, if you go back to every major conflict in human history, they all end with some kind of negotiation.” pic.twitter.com/FB4VJgljG5

Using World War II as an example, Vance asserted that compromises have been essential in resolving “every” major conflict in history.
“If you go back to World War II, if you go back to World War I. If you go back to every major conflict in human history, they all end with some kind of negotiation,” Vance said.

As I learned in high school, World War II did not end with a handshake. The conflict came to a close with the unconditional surrender of Germany on May 7, 1945, and Japan on September 2, 1945.
We dropped two Nuclear bombs on Japan and then occupied them.
Vance’s foreign policy would have let them keep Midway Island and Philippines in order to the end the war. https://t.co/K84gsuGvzu
