Some news items that caught my eye: • Pink News: The acclaimed trans-themed film Emilia Pérez has been placed on the longlist to be nominated in 15 categories for the BAFTA Awards, including best film, director, leading actress and three in the supporting actress list. • LGBTQ Nation: House Republicans have revealed one of their top legislative priorities will be to attack transgender rights.

• The Advocate: Polish ski jumper Andrzej Stękała has come out as gay through a moving tribute to his partner of eight years, who passed away in November. • ExtraTV: Wayne Osmond has become the first of the Osmond Brothers singing group to pass away. He died New Years Day at the age of 73 of a massive stroke. I was a huge fan of the Osmonds growing up and eventually realized they were the inspiration for my own performing career.
My dear brother Wayne passed away peacefully last night from a stroke. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit him in the hospital before he passed.
Wayne brought so much light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist… pic.twitter.com/J0I2W2QwMG — Donny Osmond (@donnyosmond) January 2, 2025
• New York Times: The new set of House rules for this session of Congress makes it more difficult to oust the speaker. Rather than a motion to “vacate the chair” from a single member of either party, the new rule requires nine members of the Republican party to trigger such action. • YouTube: The soldier who died in an explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck at the Trump hotel in Las Vegas left a note saying it was stunt to serve as “wakeup call” for the country’s ills, investigators said Friday.
