As I finish my buttermilk pies for tomorrow’s festivities, a few news items you might have missed: • Axios: Did you know – “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (a.k.a. “The Night Before Christmas”) was originally published anonymously in the Troy Sentinel on Dec. 23, 1823. Years later, it was finally credited to Manhattan scholar Clement Clarke Moore. • The Advocate: One of my favorite voices in the LGBTQ space, John Casey, offers his thoughts for celebrating a sober Christmas. • JoeMyGod: Required reading every Christmas – Joe’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Lesbians,” capturing a magical NYC moment, makes its 21st annual appearance. • Religion News: Donald Trump is planning a ‘pay-to-pray’ event in advance of his inauguration in January for the low, low price of just $100,000. • Sky News: A misprint in a 1955 Sears ad for a phone number to Santa led to the now-famous ‘Santa Tracker’ by NORAD. The colonel on duty back in December 1955 answered the secret phone line when a little boy asked to speak to Santa…the rest is history. • And in closing: I hope you all have a very merry, happy holiday.
