House Passes Stop-Gap Spending Bill By 366-34 Vote

The House of Representatives passed a stop-gap spending bill by a vote of 366-34 just hours before a government shut-down would have taken effect. The new legislation is a short-term extension that funds government through March 14, 2025. It also includes $100 billion for disaster aid; $30 billion for farmers; and a one-year extension of the farm bill.

JUST IN: After two failed attempts, and with just hours to go before a midnight deadline, the House approved a spending bill to fund the government until March 14— but multiple hurdles remain to avert a government shutdown.

As I shared earlier this week, an initial bipartisan deal was torpedoed by Donald Trump and his co-President Elon Musk. Then last night, the House failed to pass a revamped plan that included a demand from Trump that the debt limit be extended. What today’s bill does NOT include is language that addresses Trump’s desire to extend the debt limit. ABC News reports the White House and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) support the new bill. After effectively killing the original bipartisan bill on Wednesday with a barrage of over 100 tweets, President-elect Elon Musk was suddenly tight-lipped on his social media barely acknowledging a government shutdown had been avoided.
