During last night’s season finale of Dancing with the Stars, Derek Hough took to the stage with his best friend, pro dancer Mark Ballas, to throw down a special Argentine tango performance to “Libertango” by Tango Bardo. Before hitting the ballroom floor, they explained that the traditional dance became popular for men to perform together due to the gender imbalance in Argentina in the late 1800s. Danced by two men, “the tango of the compadron” expresses a tale of two men locked in symbolic mortal combat. This. Is. Spectacular. In 2016, Nyle DiMarco teamed up with Keo Motsepe for a routine set to “Habanera” by Georges Bizet. The duo became the first same-sex couple to dance together on the show.
