Donald Trump closed his Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday with his usual weaving through his hate list: denouncing his political rivals, attacking immigrants, “the enemy within,” and promising mass deportations. But it was the speakers earlier in the evening who stole the spotlight with vulgar, racist remarks including one, Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Americans “garbage.”
From CNN:
“There’s a lot going on, like, I don’t know if you know this but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now,” he said. “I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
The line was well-received by Trump supporters who filled the historic arena in Midtown Manhattan. Trump has recently taken to calling the US “a garbage can for the world” when he rails against undocumented immigrants.
“These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do,” Hinchcliffe continued.

It’s worth noting that NYC is home to the largest Puerto Rican population on the US mainland. And about 500K Puerto Ricans live in battleground Pennsylvania. Hinchcliffe tried to buffer the situation on social media telling folks they “have no sense of humor.” It didn’t fly.
Hi Tony
We’re aware that you’re a comedian. But when you are a featured speaker at a campaign event, what you say reflects on the campaign.
If no one from the campaign informed you of that, they screwed you royally.

Don’t be so down in the dumps, Tony. At least you’ll be able to say you helped get the first woman president elected.

Hey Tony, go fuck yourself. How’s that for a joke, you racist piece of shit.
— Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) October 27, 2024
I dare you to say that shit in Puerto Rico.

Celebs of Puerto Rican background also noted the remark. Bad Bunny, one of the most popular musicians in the world, shared the clip to his nearly 46 million followers, as did Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, and Luis Fonsi. Just those four combined have over 331 million Instagram followers. Vice President Kamala Harris quickly reacted to the hideousness.
Throughout my career, I’ve always fought for the people of Puerto Rico. Every chance he got, Donald Trump abandoned and insulted them.
As president, I will invest in Puerto Rico’s future so that Puerto Ricans can not just get by, but get ahead. pic.twitter.com/jkqOPWBhIy — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) October 27, 2024
“Despacito” singer Luis Fonsi (16M IG followers), joins a chorus of Puerto Rican superstars — JLo, Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny — who’ve all shown support for Harris tonight.

Later in the evening, Republican David Rem took to the stage to call VP Kamala Harris “the devil” and “the antichrist.” Another speaker likened Vice President Kamala Harris to a prostitute with “pimp handlers.”

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), who just last week lamented VP Harris acknowledging Trump is a fascist, called Democrats “full on to Marxism.”

And Trump’s running mate JD Vance came out to tell the crowd how great things were when the Donald left office.
Let me help: We had freezer trucks filled with dead bodies, the economy collapsed, tens of millions lost their jobs, and we were wiping down our groceries with cleaning wipes that we were price gouged on — all because Donald Trump bungled the Covid response. https://t.co/rw6NPSk5lU
